Rep Power: 238 hesitation, cant go past 4k/rpm
ok so i was driving to a car meet last week and i was gunning it down the highway, it hesitated a bit accelerating just over the 4k mark, once i got to raceway park (NJ), i couldnt rev past 4k/rpm, it was like a rev limiter was in place and i couldnt. so i shut the car off for about 20 minutes and started it back up and its fine, but once in awhile it still does this same thing.
A few months ago i blew the head gasket and had to have some major work done to top end of my car (done by stealership), called honda about this problem im having and they suggested dirty injectors, stuck throttle plate etc and possibly fouled plugs.
I have 96k miles on the car (2005 Civic EX), plugs have about 35k miles on them (NGK Iridium), running 5w-30 synthetic (Mobil1)
any help is great

no CEL or DTCs being thrown? Next time it happens, take an OBD-II code reader to your car, see if anything pops up.

Its going in limp mode more some reason. Next time that it does it and cel comes on take it to autozone and get it read. Has your car been low on oil at all.

had a performance computer on my old car do that to me before, it was a bad computer and at about 4k rpm would engage the rev limiter, maybe you have a bad computer, just a thought

Sounds to me like Low oil pressure. Even if the car only ready low oil for a split second it will put the car to limp mode until you shut it off or clear the ECU. Check your oil level and get the code read at any autoparts store.

It actually sounds like your car is misfiring to me, but there is no real way to know unless you pull a code. Remember, past codes are stored in your ECM. So hook up a scanner and look for pending codes.

thanks for all the help. thankfully i keep 2qts of oil in the trunk, had around 2qts of oil in the pan. Ended up finding out the problem. When i had my car serviced at honda they busted the threads on the bolt hole and had to replace it, they never securely tightened the pan's bolts towards the front of the car so i finally figured out how the oil was leaking.
Went to walmart and picked up 5w-30 Pennzoil Platinum, Chevron Techron and MMO. CEL is still on from yesterday, did the ECU/ECM reset. Way to work this morning was much more smoother, and alot cooler since i refilled my AC System

I was figuring it had to do something with the oil level. But glad you got it fixed. And sometimes you have to reset your ecu. Either unplug the battery for a minute or get in the fuse box in the engine bay and take out the ecu fuse and put it back in.
And I laugh at honda, those mechanics are dumb. They dont know nothing, they are not real mechanics. The only thing they learned how to do is read out of a book and a computer.

A lot of the times its the VTEC soleniod, just clean it and it should be fine after that, make sure to keep good oil circulating through the car to, most the time thats what cause it to bounce off 4k. But yeah just clean the VTEC solenoid my friend, problem should be solved.
