Gear grind about 3 weeks ago, Clutch issue now, change tranny oil?

Hey guys,

3 weeks ago I was hitting high revs in 2nd gear and shifted to 3rd at about 30mph very quickly and let the clutch up too fast and there was a horrible grinding sound because i think i released the clutch before i shifted all the way into 3rd gear. Seconds after that i threw in into neutral and continued to drive normally, I noticed a couple days later that my clutch sweet spot is further up now I think, sometimes when I would shift and start releasing the clutch and take my foot off completly the car would jerk downward and feel like it would slip because the "sweet spot" changed, why is this happening?

The way I have been driving my 5speed, this is my first manual tranny car, is I know the sweet spot so I shift and release my foot to where I know the sweet spot is and then just let off when it engages, now sometimes its hard to tell where it is engaging unlike before I grinded the 3rd gear.

My car is a 2002 civic sedan DX 5speed.

NOTE: the weird jerky/ slippy feeling because I release my foot before the "sweet spot" of the clutch too soon doesnt happen all the time, maybe once a week or something like that. I think it happens because I cant feel it engaging so I think its engaged and I just take my foot off the clutch.

Have I been driving my car the wrong way? What should I try to change about my driving 5 speed? I drive normal, no speeding off lights or anything like that except when I was stupid and grinded 3rd gear 3 weeks ago.

It stoped doing that weird jerking for about 2 weeks as I drove very calmly and released the clutch slowly to make sure I didnt release it too quickly like I always have and never shifted at high high rmps.

Just to day I want making a turn from a stop, started out in first and shifted to second and it did the jerking motion, it really pisses me off and at higher rpms when I push in the clutch i can feel the engine, im not sure but it just feels weird. Manual tranny fluid has never been changed in the car since i bought it last july.

Only 6 months ago i had a generic Sachs passenger vehicle clutch installed, nothing fancy. Why did my sweet spot change? Am i releasing the clutch too fast thinking im a race car driver? What do I need to do to stop this from happening because it feels like the clutch slips then engages because the new "sweet spot" is higher up than I was used to for the past 5 months.

Should I just try driving calmly and releasing the clutch slowly till i know everything is all engaged correctly so it doesnt jerk from slipping it feels like? I know its only a sedan 5 speed 1.7l non vtech and cant race it, I just pray i didnt ruin something with my tranny/clutch/flywheel or anything.

Would draining and refiling the Manual tranny fluid help?

Please any advice would help because its really freaking me out i hope I didnt ruin something with my clutch/tranny.

sometimes you just have an off day shifting and you can't smoothly shift. happens to me every now and then. otherwise ur probably good. though i think people do wear the 3rd gear synchro most of all because of powershifting like that

So I should just relax and release the clutch slower till I know it engages?

yea, don't be so jumpy with the clutch. a friend of mine who also has a civic tries to shift so quickly (to save on gas he says) that it's really a jumpy ride in the car. smooth is better

Make sure your clutch reservoir is full and try bleeding the slave cylinder. If you have some air in the line it could give you a different feel and not engage at the normal pedal height.

I also reccomend pushing the clutch all the way down everytime. I've done that since I bought my car brand new with 6 miles on it. I have driven it fairly aggressive many times, and have grinded a few gears. I have 175,000 miles on my vic, with the original clutch and it doesn't feel like its giving out anytime soon.

Also, am I the only one that caught high revving and switching into 3rd at 30MPH? Doesn't sound high revving to me

What kind of moron doesn't push their clutch all the way down when they change gears?

The poster said his sweet spot has moved. I would assume this is where the clutch clutches all the way?
