Question Questions About 2001 Civic EU1

I have a 2001 Civic EU

i was wondering if anyone knew what type/series of engines i can dump into it as with this type of civic has D series engines which ALL happen to be SOHC VTEC engines (which most of you enthusiasts will know) and i want to either A: convert it to a DOHC (if it is possible) or B: put a DOHC VTEC series engine in it.

can anyone help me with this problem?
Can you convert a D15B SOHC VTEC to a DOHC? and if not what honda DOHC VTEC engines can i dump into the engine bay of this civic hatchback

just so you got all details i have, this civic is a 2001 5 door hatch with EU1 chassis and a D15B engine

Every mechanics i call that deal in hondas cannot tell me as they havent had many queries on EU model civics so they are no help.

Thanks for the help

No, you can't convert this engine to a DOHC. In other engines, you could get away with swapping a compatible DOHC head from a "B-series" engine on a SOHC block (you would have to change your timing belt as well for the DOHC).
The problem that you are going to be faced with is to find a transmission to fit the new engine you want to swap in place. You are currently using either a multimatic transmission (CVT) or a regular 4-speed automatic transmission (with antilockup). The EU1,2,3&4 don't come with a manual gearbox.

Your local mechanc will not know much about your EU1 as it is a JDM model and wasn't meant to be exported outside of Japan (hence you've probably realized that your operator's manual only comes in Japanese).

I'm in Jamaica, with the same vehicle, and I'm looking forward to doing an engine swap to a K20A3 engine too. My problem is sourcing the engine at a reasonable price).

No. the D15B is a 1.5 liter SOHC engine with 16 valves. It features VTEC-E (3 step VTEC for fuel economy). In the economy mode, below 2,500 RPM, only 12 of the 16 valves are active. At 2,500 to 6,800 RPM then all 16 valves are in operation. At above 6,800 RPM then the higher VTEC cams are used for lift and duration. VTEC/VTEC-E will never be anywhere as good as iVTEC.

VTEC in this engine "kicks in" very quietly, but you definitely do feel it when approaching the "red-zone".

I have an EU3 with a 5 speed manual box.

Also, check out the OZhonda forums for info on this that may help... i have seen some guys talking about K20 into EU chassis swaps.

You are correct about this.
I want to do an engine swap from a D15B3 to a D15Y4, but I don't know the difference in performance and physical layout between the two.
