Re: Performance & Looks Cheap

Those second ones are a lot cleaner than the others. DOT approved or not, an HID retrofit in those TYC's would be a lot nicer than the halo lights.

yeah I agree with you on the halo's... I was just commenting on those particular lights. But the only halo lights I would get would be something like this: http://www.xtralights.com/images/vie...productId=4197 (though those are for 04-05) that is white/clear with an OEM look. If one didn't know better (which most non-civic enthusiasts don't), one would say those aren't even aftermarket. But they're also $500... bastards... I just stick with my fading OEM housing and silverstar ultras and call it a day

Ok first off... true retrofitted HID's are as far from rice as it gets. Popping an HID bulb in a standard housing, yeah maybe.. but a real retrofitted projector housing is not. Second, blue neons and halo lights are kind of the definition of rice. But, I'm done now. Do what you want, it's your car.

Honestly I think to each his own. Halos look good to some, and not to others. Most things "RICE" as you all put it, I dont like either, but when it comes to the halos I veer toward the ricey side!LOL! IMO we all drive a Japanese car, so we are all a little rice. LMAO!

the link is to tail lights... if that's what you meant, i'm not sure if they would be a direct fit electrically because they say "04/05". but as far as fitment they would be fine. you can always email the site and ask if everything plugs right in directly to 01-03, or search the forums for an 01-03 to 04-05 conversion and see if there's any difference electrically.

but if you're trying to stay away from rice you're going the wrong direction... the best tails to get if you're looking to stay away from rice are 04/05 OEM style LED's like so...

http://www.procivic.com/pages-produc...095/index.html (you have to hit the "choose your application" button to see the actual pic)

just sayin...

Wow those ones on procivic are badass. I bought the same taillights that are on xtralights, only instead of smoke I got the black ones and they look sick on a black car IMO. They have clear lenses and there just like blacked out on the inside. So I have blacked out headlights and taillights to match.

Most people will prolly say its rice, but as far as performance these things are bright! way way brighter than stock. So IMO there an amazing buy for cosmetic and performance.

if you add splitters, a 4 foot spoiler, a roof scoop, and a hood scoop you could probably get a few extra pounds of down force and become more aerodynamic...

no one needs to see your tail lights from outer space... "amazing" is a "way way" extreme word to use.

it's ok to like the style of rice. as I said above, i like halo's. I also like red/painted emblems and the sound of an intake and exhaust, but they are ricey as p.f. changs...

So I should have bought the black out film off ebay just like you and decrease light visibility, that'd be much better.
Where I'm from we get really shitty weather so its nice to know that anybody behind me will for sure see me no matter how bad the weather.

no need to get snooty sir... i had black out film on my tail lights for about 15 minutes before they came off on the highway. It was a decision I regret, but I also spent about ten dollars on them. Not too big of a deal. You, on the other hand, are suggesting that people buy those ~$250 tail lights for the performance (if any), and the style (rice) is just a bonus (not really)...

the black out film didn't even really decrease the light visibility very much (you could see them mid-afternoon in arizona, and perfectly at night).

if the weather is so bad that having the top of the Luxor shining out of your tail lights gives you piece of mind, then it sounds like those are times when you shouldn't be driving anyway.

i didn't insult you or your car. I happen to think the tails you posted would look ok on a black car. but you have to admit they're rice as hell... now you actually did some research to insult me and the best you came up with is "So I should have bought the black out film off ebay just like you and decrease light visibility, that'd be much better"?

you cut me deep!

now check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

that's a good question. I know you can replace the front turn signal bulbs with LED's (something i may do soon) but i'm not 100% about the tails. I mean, i'm sure it's possible but if you can't see the bulb directly through the housing it seems like it would be pointless because all you're seeing is the reflection of the light instead of the source.

do some searching on here and i'm sure you could find the answer.

02civicsi02 will become famous soon enough
Re: Performance & Looks Cheap

The d17 wasnt really made for performance so your best bet is just to save the performance upgrades for the d17 for the swap. And keep your tail lights stock cause those are fine dont rice out the car. And dont get the halo headlights either. Just take of the your headlights heat them up to break the seal and take them apart and paint them black. Just look up a diy.

And swap a k24 not a k20
