Rep Power: 0 2003 civic lx transmission noise. manual
so im hearing a really noticeable whirring noise from my civic. it makes the noise on acceleration and deceleration it dosent matter weather or not the clutch is engaged. only that its in gear. if the car is in a neutral there is no whirring but if the car is in gear there is a fairly loud whirring sound. so just to clarrify again this sound is made with the clutch engaged or disengaged but if my shifter is in nuetral there is no sound. as soon as its in gear regardles of clutch position. there is a a whirring sound. when the car is not in motion i can rev with no sound either with clutch in or out.

Probably your input shaft bearring. Requires transmission removal and bearring replacement. Not a DIY job if you have never pulled a transmission. Happened on my Civic and cost me $2200 but I did some other stuff ilke machine the flywheel and I took it to Honda ($99/hour!).

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: 2003 civic lx transmission noise. manual
Is it only making noise while moving?
Noise pitch is not consistent with engine RPM, but is consistent with road speed?
Or does the pitch change as you change gears?
Has the fluid been checked?
Has it been run low on fluid?
99/hour is cheap.
