worried need help civic 1.6

hi iv had my honda civic 1.6 2003 for 4 years but iv recently having a problem my temperature stays half way and the fans do not work what can cause this also when i park up i can hear sizzling water and steam from rad cap area i think my rad cap is an after market not genuine can that casue it ? hope someone can help thank you

Dont add water. You can buy a coolant mix tester for about $3 at any auto store when you buy a new cap. Good to make sure your coolant mix is correct. Temp half way is ok, when its in the red you have a problem. You should check the thermostat too. Check the fans too. Refer to service manual for testing. One of the experts will have more advice. Hope this helps

i agree never add water,

but you should never use coolant from "any auto store', these engines require honda OEM 'blue" premixed coolant, nothing else should ever be used
