I know what you all are thinking and yes i know this topic is beat to death. I have searched and could not find answers to my specific questions, or the links are dead. Or they go to a AEM cai install, which didnt help either.
I bought the Ebay Bomz SRI for my fiance's Civic EX, i have ran into a couple problems.
I know its well known on these forums that the intake doesnt fit perfect because its cheap, but just wondering what everbody did to clear the hood. I have read to trim the coupler but just wondering how you did it. Just take a .25" from where it attaches to the throttle body?
Also from when i took off the stock air box, there was a rubber adapter that stayed on the throttle body. The ebay coupler seems a little big for the throttle body, so i decided to leave the rubber adapter and now the coupler fits snug but i dont see how "trimming" the coupler will help hood clearance.
And lastly what do I do with the 2 brackets that came with the intake? Thanks for the help!

you could just saw a little off the aluminium pipe to make it fit just make sure to sand it so no metal flakes get in the intake. also you really need to replace that crapp bombz filter with a AEM you need a filter that actually filters. the brackets are there to support the added weight of the cold air piping but you should just use the pipe off the throttle as a short ram.
hahahaha. oh man. you have the exact same problems i had, but i got it all to work out. when i first got my car i bought a bomz short ram intake just like you, and yes it sat too high and the hood didnt work very well with it. i had bought this system just to use temporarily until i got a nicer intake system.
you are correct, you have to take a saw or something else and cut off as much as you possibly can from the bottom of the intake pipe where it connects to the throttlebody. you will have to cut WAY more than 1/4" though, trust me. i think i cut about 3/4" off the pipe itself. even after you do that, you will need to cut the bottom of the coupler as well so that the entire intake itself is almost touching the throttlebody. if you dont cut the bottom of the coupler (part that sits on the throttlebody) your intake will still fit too high and rub against the hood. dont worry about the couple little tab things they included, they just add it in incase you want to try to somehow jimmyrig it (you dont need them, mine are still in a box somewhere). theyre useless.
as for the filter, its as good or better than any other gauze/mesh filter ive used before, even the various filters i went through on my VW GTI. i used this intake + filter for 2.5 years until i just got my aem system this summer. you shouldnt have a problem with it as long as you keep it clean and oiled.

before i installed my aem intake, i took a couple pictures of this intake just before i removed it incase anyone ever had this problem. you can see how i barely have any coupler, just enough to connect the pipe. you can also see what happens to the top of the aluminum intake when it continuously rubs against the hood (this happened for a while until i cut more off, then it stopped). it just slowly grinds away. if you want to keep yours looking nice, cut as much off the bottom of intake, and bottom of the coupler as you can. the top doesnt really matter.

lol I got one of those when I first got my car to. Replaced it with the k&n typhoon after my very next check because of the fitting isues. My brother with a pontiac grand am got one to. His has been on there 3 years and rusted all to crap. He still uses it tho.
Dont know but its rusted bad, mostly the filter, and the chrome is flaking off it. His is the cold air and I think hes hit some high water a few times with it.
