Hey guys I bought my 5-Speed 01 civic ex 5 months ago and now when i first turn it on in the morning and wait 2 minutes then start to drive the car feels like it wants to turn off. I have to floor it, its like i need to push something through! I'm not sure what it is, I am using premium and not sure if i should be using it? And before it was when i first turned on the car but now if i will go to a shop and come back to the car in 10 minutes the car is still hot so i drive and it does it. And if i completely stop the car shakes and wants to stop.

Re: Need helpppp! Please help

Clean the throttle body, valves, and sensors, change the plugs see if it improves at all... That's generally where you start when the car is stumbling. Don't worry about changing the coils... that shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Need helpppp! Please help

Sounds just like what I went through a couple weeks ago. Gearbox gave me the suggestion of cleaning the throttle body and idle valve. Removed it, cleaned the hell out of it with carb cleaner, and it 100% solved the problem.

Re: Need helpppp! Please help

I simply removed the throttle body, then removed the idle valve from it.

I cleaned the hell out of the throttle body (it was filthy on a 98 Civic) by spraying it with carb cleaner, then using a scotchbrite pad cut in small pieces, then using a cotton cloth (old T-shirt) to wipe the broken up carbon off.

I basically did the same with the idle valve, just used small pieces of scotchbrite/cotton cloth, and moved them around with a small screwdriver to do the 'scrubbing' of every accessible spot.

Put it all back together, and it's run like a champ since.
