Header And De-Cat Question

Ok so simple question really but is it worth it? i fancy a de-cat and a header both of which i can pick up to accompany my apexi n1...
Only thing is i was reading somewere on civinfo that when you swap out for a decat it causes the car to run leaner?
Now they were talking about K's but surely same principle for the D's?

Anyway, just want to know if a 4-1 will flow better then stock mani and wether the whole lean thing is a myth and will i notice any better respone/power/exhaust note from a de-cat.

Cheers in advance.

Tom

Re: Header And De-Cat Question

lol the lean thing is not a myth. i can't remember the CEL code i was getting but yeah my gas mileage went to poo...i took it to the people that installed my cat and they had to make a bypass which is like a hollowed out spark plug that spaces the o2 sensor from the piping to make the ECU register that the cat is fully functional...

it took several hours for them to get the hole at just the right size to throw off the CEL for good...my gas mileage went back up, i can pull from about 80mph easily past to about topout at 112mph without any hiccups, etc etc.

just like any mod it can be a real pain and take some time..but i do think the results were worth it...if u have an aftermarket muffler though i did notice my exhaust a full tone louder...at an annoying ricer sound at that too...so i put an aftermarket OEM muffler on to shut it up lol

look up the DIY for the mechanical o2 simulator on this forum, your ecu will have no idea there is no cat. therefore, any potential problems will be avoided and you ca still have that free-flowing exhaust.

Thanks,
could you point me in the direction of this diy? and i cant decide wether its worth it now.
Dont want the ricer sound i like my not how it is, but i do want a free flowing CAT mainly because mines on it way out so i'd just shove it back in for MOT's rather then having to buy a new one.

Thanks again, and what about the manifold? worth it or not

Tom

Re: Header And De-Cat Question

Yep, that will work. Or on ebay they sell non foulers for the O2 sensor. I bought the angled one because with my race header if you pulled the sensor out of the cat that far you'd need to cut the frame. I think it was 25-30 bucks, but well worth it.
