My D17a2 build

So far i have a AEM V2 intake, APEXi World Sport 2, ACT Stage 2 clutch and ACT 11.9 lb. flywheel. Along with those im sitting on Progress springs with KYB's all around, with 17'' AT Italia rims. Some might not be feeling the rims but i got them cheap off my brother, so i took what i could get, btw they do look a little better in person. Future mods consist of Stage 2 crower cam with Kpro, then top it off with a 50 shot.

Re: My D17a2 N/A build

lol getting a clutch isnt a N/A build but i think you should go with the crower stage 3 if youre getting kpro.
get some arp d16z6 head studs and up that to a 100 or 150 shot

and you need a full exhaust

I agree. If your dropping the coin on kpro then you might as well go stage 3.

Re: My D17a2 N/A build

And ahem... nitrous is not N/A ... its chemical forced induction... but yeah go with the stage 3. its the same price and more power. if you really want to go N/A you should do an individual throttle body setup, that would be truly awesome.

Re: My D17a2 N/A build

Sounds like a good start man. Also I agree, K-pro is a hell of an investment, might as well get the most out of it with stage 3 crowers. Don't forget rod bolts though, and a 50 shot isn't that bad. I would consider that right now if you want just a little more power cheap. Then start saving cause a build gets expensive quick. GL

Re: My D17a2 build

Looking good man. What difference did you notice after the clutch and flywheel? I've been thinking about upgrading, but havent heard a good depiction of exactly the differences after upgrading- can you help me out?

Re: My D17a2 build

you'll probably feel better shifts since the pressure plate is brand new and its just gonna grab a whole lot better

Re: My D17a2 build

like supafil25 said the shifts and the grabbing power are amazing..its tough to get use to pushing in a hard clutch but you get use to it. Theres no play at all its about a 3inch push in till it hits the floor and it grabs right away. I chirp going into 3rd now, but i snapped my slave cylinder 3 days ago, other than that it was $500 well spent

Re: My D17a2 build

plus with the lightened flywheel acceleration is a lot better, but i wouldnt go lower than 11lbs on a dd. Because right now i can tell that the rpms drop pretty fast but like i said before you get use to all the changes pretty quickly.

This is what I was looking for- can you elaborate a little more about the noticeable acceleration, and the drops in revs (you mean when your in gear and off the gas it slows you dont much more the lighter the flywheel?)

Re: My D17a2 build

They will drop and go up faster with a lighter one.. and i dont believe you loose torque.. yea people say that but if you put say a fidanza flywheel on our civics and the car is making alot of power to begin with like 200 whp or up you will spin tires ALOT more.. i have a friend who put a turbo kit on his car, then put a flywheel and it was spinning all of 1st and 2nd gear. keep in mind before he put his turbo it didnt spin much in second. and no they werent shitty tires. BUT for na purposes on low hp cars it is perfect.

Re: My D17a2 build

A uprated Clutch is not needed for a stage 2 build if you know how to drive a manual. I beat the ever-living shit out of my car with a stock clutch when I had my stage 2 in it just not enough power to make a dent in it. stock clutch is good to about 170-175hp it will work beyond that you just can't beat on it too hard.

as for the flywheel it's six in one hand half a dozen in the other. your revs will go up and down a lot faster but that does no mean you will accelerate you will loose low end toque. a bunch of American muscle guys that I know use a 23lbs flywheel for dragging cause you can get off the line quicker but the momentum also stays up longer so you can shift on the drag strip and not loose as much power. The lightened flywheel is good once you are already moving and have your forward momentum built up. And they are great on road courses! it does free up a lot of power from the engine. and with such a small engine something like a 12 lbs is probably not really going to hurt you. but if you go any smaller on a stock motor the car gets really rev happy which can be really annoying to a lot of people to drive on the street.

I'm running an 8.5lbs flywheel and unless I get my launch perfect trying to play catch up is just a pain cause I got to wait till I get up to 5000 before the car really starts pulling hard. Now if im rolling down the highway and down shift into the powerband since the flywheel is so light I'm gone.

but when it really comes down to it it's all about how you want the car to feel cause changing the clutch and flywheel is one of those things that can really change how a car feels when you drive it.
