Angry a rattle!!!

Okay when I first put this exhaust in it rattled. My mid-flange was bouncing off of my exhaust shield. I took it to a muffler shop and had them bend it ever so slightly so it would not touch the shield and it has worked fine until today! It was raining out here all day, and when I started to drive at about 4700 rpm my shit began to rattle! It only rattled until I hit 5000 rpms and then stopped! When the car was parked I checked it and it was the same distance as when they bent it... What I need to know is, if my cold air gets filled with water, and my AEM bypass kicks in, would that cause a harmonic that could resonate through to my exhaust? Cause that is the only thing that I can think of it being. Or can my pipe cool to fast in the rain and tighten up closer to my chassis? It happened throughout my gears. And when I got this pipe bent it was in the middle of winter and it didnt give me problems then! The only thing that is different is my cold air with the bypass. Sorry I wasnt able to get pictures, but it doesnt really matter cause it looks fine at idle. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this prob with bypass valves and cold airs.

Re: a rattle!!!

rain is common problem, it causes pipes to expand when hot and touch places. im sure once everything is dry it will sound fine again. happens to me sometimes too.

Thumbs up Re: a rattle!!!

i originally had that exact problem and in an older thread i wrote how i fixed it. i notched out the heat shield on each side in a little triangle shape where it slightly bends down so that it stopped touching the flange. i just used a regular pair of tin snips. it solved the problem completely on 99% of days. you wouldnt have to worry about damaging your heatshield because it would still totally serve its purpose. youd only be taking out a little chunk on each side.

every now and then when it rains or when there is melted snow on the roads it will still rattle because it gets inbetween the flange and the heat shield...nothing to worry about at all.

then again, it took about 2 minutes just to snip off that little chunk on each side and that did help get rid of the rattle on about half of the rainy days.

Re: a rattle!!!

if i had a digital camera, id take a picture but i dont have one. the snips should do the trick, i only took off a little triangle wedge shaped piece off of each side right where the flange is that were maybe an inch and a half wide. noone will ever see it so dont worry about how it looks. at least it will get rid of a good half the times it will rattle in the rain or snow.

Re: a rattle!!!

Same thing happens to me. I just deal with because it's not raining a lot. I'm sure I'll get really pissed off though once the snow hits.
