ViS cf hood

i have been looking into getting the ViS cf Evo style hood.

now i know that this is probably a dumb question and cause for much harrassment but i cant find a clear answer.

The hood is vented and i have a SRI. Any chance of hydrolock in a rain storm?

ive heard horror stories of hydrolock but not sure how much water it would take to do such damage. ive heard a number of different things and just wanna hear what you guys think

Re: ViS cf hood

yes there are chances of it getting hydrolocked. I have a vis invader hood and the vents sit pretty close to the intake filter, and by looking at the evo style it looks like the intake filter is right underneath the vent. I would just swap your vis hood for your oem on a rainy day to be safe. By the way the vis evo hood is a pretty cool hood.

Re: ViS cf hood

yeah i looked at the pics of the hood online and where my intake is and it looks like it would line up pretty perfectly for some trouble. I think it looks sweet too, and yeah ill prob just swap if alot of rain. or just drive the toyota rav4 (ugh.. but hey, its a stick)

Re: ViS cf hood

Take a look at this. I hope this helps. I dont know how well it works i've never tried it but I have never seen AEM put out junk. here is the link.

http://www.aempower.com/ViewCategory.aspx?CategoryID=20

here is the FAQ on it. I'd read it before you buy it cause it wont work with all CAI or some performance mods.

Re: ViS cf hood

that looks pretty neat. my intake is injen so i dont know if it would fit but by reading the faq it seems that rain alone cannot cause hydrolock. im confident if i go with the hood ill be fine.

on a side note, ive heard of spark plugs thats designed blow out if pressure gets too great because of water in your engine so that the water has an escape from the cylinder and doesnt seize the engine. thought that was neat too

^^^x2

i could be wrong but rain should evaporate from the heat of the engine before i could do serious damage

Re: ViS cf hood

Taken from the FAQ just to completely clarify this one.

"Driving the vehicle in rainy conditions is not enough to cause a problem unless the vehicle submerges enough that the inlet end of the pipe is immersed in water. Rain impingement on the filter will not cause a hydro lock condition."
