Honda civic: A true performer?

I'm wondering if the 01-05 Honda civics with a 1.7l vtech engine are what this site has made them out to be. Are they a fast car? Are they a sports car? I guess what I'm trying to ask is; is the Honda civic a true performer? Just wondering what your opinion is. To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

Re: Honda civic: A true performer?

Nobody here on civicforums.com likes the Honda Civic. This is really a Civic hater's site. We just hide it better than other sites.

Re: Honda civic: A true performer?

They are ok stock in the high end. low end sucks, ton of torque and no hp to back it up. But going speeds around 60-70 and droping it into 4th my car kicks arse, taken out some eclipses, grand ams, v6 mustang poney ect while already running especailly if I come to an incline it just pulls right up it to the redline. ofcourse they just laugh going from a stop.

only things ive done is K&N short ram, magnaflow catback, and then just small things like denso irridium plugs ect.

Re: Honda civic: A true performer?

Ok now im not one to believe this thing is a fast car or that vtec is the end all to be all like the peps that go by hp gains on the box. Maybe I was just impressed with how much better it accelerated while already at a going speed rather than the very very veryyyyy sluggish take off.
Also in the fact that I could even beat anyone in a race in it "friends having fun not serious racer"

No need to put me in with the guys that say "I got a cai a muffler and super ebay chip now i got like 160hp." Im not that nieve hehe.

So in short yes this thing is painfully slow but that fact that the crappy little 1.7L sohc 125hp engine can do anything at all just impresses me engineering wise.

PS. Im even getting one of the torque dampaners just because of the sheer anoyance of having to rev this thing so high to get anywere and then having my passengers swaying back and fourth from shifting >< Speed is what my Yamaha FZ1000 is for.

Actually to TRULY answer the OP's question, he's specifically asking about stock 7th Generation Civics, and I guess we can say they are slower than 5th, 6th, or 8th gen because of a poorer weight/power ratio, and they are less boostable. The EPhatch with stock 160 HP 2.0L is not bad, a tiny bit faster than the 6th gen Si and able at minimum to accept a 200 or 240bhp motor swap.
