Crower Stage 1 N/A Camshaft-Civic 01-05 EX

Would I need the EX head to use this or will it also work in an LX? I am learning about more heavy duty engine mods so any information on this would be great...
Here it is

Re: Crower Stage 1 N/A Camshaft-Civic 01-05 EX

you need the head from the ex to use this camshaft. ex has vtec lx doesnt. in order to get a camshaft upgrade on an lx or dx you have to convert to an ex head and get the camshaft you speak of or have a company custom regrind a camshaft for you, i believe that crower will do it. there are other companys that will do a regrind. use the seach button and put in lx camshaft or just camshaft and look around and you will find more information on this site. fyi stay away from gude when you come across it because a member recently confirmed that they do shotty work. look in the transaction feedback section to see that member. good luck

Thanks for the info! I figured you'd need the EX head... meh, I wont even waste time/money on the d17... header, intake, exhaust is all it deserves right now... and all I can afford. For a shop to do a head swap, it'd be a pretty expensive job, eh?

Re: Crower Stage 1 N/A Camshaft-Civic 01-05 EX

why are you bothering? I mean to each his own, but stage one cams? I had the stage 2's and even they make no difference in your car, they cost money and eat gas and dont even make enough power to justify their own existance. I would advise against any building of the D17 unless you have TONS of time and money, becuase without both of those, you wont get any results from a d17 N/A Go boosted if you want power, and even then its still a bitch. My suggestion would be commute in the civic and buy a 240sx or something like that and put your money in that. Itll work out better in the end. Sorry to tread on your dreams, but ive seen too many people get caught up in " car dreams" and then wind up shattering their wallets.
i share cuz i care.

Re: Crower Stage 1 N/A Camshaft-Civic 01-05 EX

I totally know what you're saying... when I want to go fast and look good I drive my old benz or my wife's new audi... but the civic is more of a money pit that lets me learn about car tuning because it is relatively cheap, no matter what I do...

I really want to get the EX head, but the stage1 cam was more to test the water and see what the forum thought about them... thanks for caring!

im glad you get it, because alot of the people on this subject tend to think that a stage 1 cam means gobs of horsepower and OMG it was only 350 on ebay!!! The reality of it is, the D17 isnt a worthwhile endevour. To learn about tuning it will take time and money, honestly if you just have the civic sitting around, i would swap engines or turbo it. Ultimatly in the end youll be happier than throwing away your money on a N/a d17. My moto with building has always been, start with the end in mind, then you wont spend money two or three times on the same shit. Nothing would bump up your honda knowledge more than swapping a Kseries engine into your vic... Just go for it!!

yeah good point... but it is soo much easier to spend a couple hundred $$$ here and there instead of 10 grand or more at one time, you know!? hehehe. I really want to do the swap, but my wife would murder me if I spent that much at one time...
