cai compatible?

hey i thinkin about getting a cold air intake for an automatic 03 ex and was just going to buy a generic ebay intake but all of them were sayin it is manual transmission only and i noticed that the short ram auctions didnt say "MT only" so i was thinking that was universal regardless of the transmission. so i was wondering is the cold air really for manual transmission only or what? TheMoogly is on a distinguished road
I dont think 7th gen civics have a difference between MT and AT throttle body location so I think you'll be alright... I have a short ram and a CAI for my MT 04 LX but I've seen the same intake (same model code) on automatics @ hondacivicforum.com...

The throttle body is okay.. its the transmission that would become a problem when your talking about a cai kuz of where the piping goes.

No the transmission blocks the piping from exiting the engine bay. Your stuck with short ram. Or maybe custom fit a CAI. Good Luck

uhhh i have a 03 ex coupe...automatic... i had a cai..it was a tight fit but i managed to get it through.... Due to me running into deep flood water and hydrolocking my engine...I gave up on CAIs. I put back on my stock air box and runs exactly the same. No change in feel. but there is a big diff between cai and sri to me. SRI felt as if i lost power from my already stock car. Then I changed to CAI and i felt i gained my power back that i lost with the SRI.

with our cars....intakes are basically to look "cool"
well for in my eyes

i bought a cai for my 02 civic thats an automatic, there is a problem with the fitment, itll knock on stuff, its a tight fit and its hard to fit right where you want. I had a short ram off of ebay before my injen cai. what i did was used only the first pipe from my cai and connectd the filter on the end of it. Now it sits right behind the battery and its a snug secure fit. liek the guy said above me, the cai will have more of a power gain than a short ram, but i live in florida and its always raining and i didnt wana f up my car anytime soon. he's right, intakes are basically to look cool....in our cars.

If youre going to put an intake on your car and its an auto you have to make sure the intake is for auto but i had a CAI on my 04 VP and it was fine but its a standard tranny but when i switched it to my fiances car i couldnt put the complete CAI on it becaise the tranny is too big because its an auto, but if you just get a short ram then it wont matter.

Re: cai compatible?

Well if you don't have any other problems w/ your car try resetting the ECU. Pull out the fuse for it for about 30 secs. Then see what happens

Re: cai compatible?

that happened to me when i first bought an ebay short ram. your o2 sensor is near your exhaust, are u talking about the MAF sensor that connects to ur intake? correct me somebody if im wrong. anyway my CEL came on when i first connectd the sensor to the new intake so then i jus disconnectd my battery and reconnectd it and it was gone... or if you even have that sensor connectd to ur intake in the first place.

Re: cai compatible?

^civics don't have a MAF, but an IAT sensor. If it's just hanging somewhere it could cause the CEL, but probably not. Pulling the ECU fuse is easier than DCing the battery, as you don't have to unlock your radio, etc. There's actually a procedure to get the ECU used to CAI on this site somewhere. You pull the fuse for a few minutes, then put it back in, start the car, let it idle, etc. It's on the site somewhere.
