You should be ok I believe. I think that during 2008 the problem was resolved.

Re: 2007 Civic SI 3rd gear news

not sure about how 09 si will be.. they do look different imo i think 06-07 look better.. so ya ask about if they know anything about that 3rd gear from dealer or try that 3rd gear alot at diff engine speeds .

Angry Re: 2007 Civic SI 3rd gear news

Considering my '08 Si is exhibiting a mild case of the problem, and I only have 4,000 miles on it, I wouldn't be totally surprised if the '09 exhibits the problem as well.

Exclamation Re: 2007 Civic SI 3rd gear news

Hey FoSho,

I had to deal with this 3rd gear issue on a 2007 Civic Si I bought used with 16k on it. I new right away something was wrong and googled 3rd gear and found all this out. I took it to Honda and they had a tech drive it and I was told there is nothing wrong with it. I wasn't willing to accept this and took it back and told the head tech to take it home, run his errands, drive his kids around town or whatever it would take to experience the problem. Two days later I got a call telling me that the car is messed up and that they will replace everything needed to fix the problem free of charge. He said the first time he took it out nothing happened. When he went to take it to work the following morning it popped out of 3rd gear 3 times on his drive. So go ahead and laugh FoSho, but get rid of the, "It's a Honda and nothings wrong with it attitude" and start helping the customers that keep Honda in business. I'm happy with the car I purchased and that the dealership is going to right this problem, otherwise, I would have been stuck feeling like I was driving a lemon. So thank you Honda and if anyone else is experiencing a problem with 3rd gear be persistent. It will pay off!

Re: 2007 Civic SI 3rd gear news

I'll let you know when I pick it up. It is supposed to be done Saturday. Now after digging around about all this I'm wondering about the tires. When I bought it I was told it went through the Honda Certified inspection. They replaced two tires which I thought was odd with only 16k on it. I'm gonna keep an eye on my rear tires for uneven tire wear. I'll follow up when I know more.

Re: 2007 Civic SI 3rd gear news

I just bought a 07 Si last week today and a couple days ago noticed that sometimes when going in to 3rd I feel like I hit a wall and no engage. take it out put it back in, fine. It's not "popped" out on me but you can feel it not wanting to engage.

I have owned a 92 lx 5spd, 02 ex 5spd and now this, been driving manual for 12 years. I got a super great deal on it with only 12k miles but I'm fearing this thread. Good thing I decided to purchase the super extended GM warranty at the dealership I bought it. keep me safe until 100k and my last 02 civics no claim warranty from nissan paid for it in full so that keeps me sleeping at night.

I really like the car though, fun car, my younger brother is jealous with his 89 crx si.

Watching this thread like a hawk...

Re: 2007 Civic SI 3rd gear news

I brought my car in for the 2nd time and they replaced the 3rd gear set and synchronizer. The GM originally had told me they were going to take time to test it again, but when I showed up, they said they parts are on the way and it'll be done in 2 days.

I made sure and emailed the GM my many concerns politely, as I was scared to even stick any money into it, considering the issue was with such a major component.
Good news, ahhhh...

Bob:

My advice to you is print out this tsb and bring it in to your dealer. If they can't duplicate it or won't do anything now, at least make them document it in your file that you've had a problem.

I have even drove with several customers.....nothing happens as soon as I'm in the car!

I'd really like to see some more cars but right now I can't find anything. Honda should go get that guys car on the new report, strip the tranny appart, & when none of the parts come back as a manuf. defect I'm gonna laugh. It would be even more funny if the gears wear worn from improper driving. This is usually the case with all cases I've seen.

Just my 2 cents. Honda knows what they're doin!

They wanna see a messed up tranny, they should came for a ride in the turbo They would heard all kinda noises & shudders. Stop complaining I wish my 02 civic shifted as nice as a new one!

Hey man im here to knock u off that lil smart ass trip your on! U sound like the usual smart ass lil punks ive been dealing with about the issues with my car and guess what asshole there is a problem with the third gear set syncos in the 2007 si and just cause u havnet seen one yet doesnt mean that there isnt a issue! honda use to know what they were doing but now im not so sure..the whole chassis geometery on the new civics are fucked up! It lil pricks like you that stero type SI owners as being lil tunes that dont know shit well guess what asshole i know my shit ive done my research and you know what Honda put together thousands of civics everything from th DX to SI with defective parts and there engineering has gone to crarp its only a matter of time before the whole thing blows up in their face and there reputation is ruined, and u know what ? All of us are gonna be laughing at u because the time honda has to cough up the millions of dollars its gonna take to bring all the defective cars in and replace the parts there gonna have to back on expenses starting with laying off lil pricks like YOU! Re: 2007 Civic SI 3rd gear news

Since my '08 SI has been fixed it has not popped out of 3rd gear once. Right away I noticed quite a difference.

One thing i do notice in 3rd gear(no other gears do it) is that sometimes I feel a little notchiness in the gear. I'm not sure if it's going to lead to a problem or is normal.

Anyone have an idea? I'm sure many of you are more tech savvy than myself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
