8th Gen Honda Civic 2006 and up is the 8th Generation Honda Civic. It adds a new look to the Civic line-up. A really smooth front end separates it from previous generations while still carrying the reliability of the Civic name.

True top speed of the 06 Si

I've had this running theory about the true top speed of the 06 Si.
Since this vehicle doesn't have a govenor but instead a REV limiter, why couldn't you actually accelerate beyond Honda's proposed top speed of 135.
So last Friday night I decided to test my theory out on a stretch of highway that was a straight shot and slightly sloped away from the Tehachipi Mountains in S. Cali.
Viola, take the car right up to rev limit in 5th around 8.3k RPMs (133mph) making sure not to hit rev limit and shift into 6th.
White knuckled and in fear of whizzing by California HP, I watched in amazment as the odometer crept up to 134, 135, 136, 137 and I had to shut her down due to a pair of slower moving Semi's blocking both lanes.
I wished I had a passenger to snap a photo of the speedo because I'd send it to Honda.
The increase didn't happen in a short time but rather (I'm guessing) over the period of maybe a minute.

I know the MichelinR PilotR ExaltoR PE2T Summer Tires (P215/45 ZR17 91W) that come with the "Summer" Package Si are rated up to 160mph,... I'm just wondering exactly where the top end of the Si really is.

I'm not condoning this type of driving habit and in fact the whole stunt was actually pretty stupid to try. It was around 130am and a desolate stretch of desert highway with light traffic, but I still can't emphasize how dangerous this curious pursuit "to-know" really was.

I'm willing to speculate that with just enough fuel (weight) to get you up to speed and a smooth stretch of straight downhill road you should be able to bust 140+ in this car.
In 6th I was nowhere near the REV limiter.

IF I should ever try this experiment again on open public highways I will remember to have a phone cam ready to snap a picture of the speedo.

142 mph I dont know if it would have went any faster though because at 133 it climbs really slow.

Re: True top speed of the 06 Si

There is a web site http://www.vtec.net/articles/view-ar...icle_id=421994
that does a dyno test and it tops out at 157 mph. I myself would love to find out also. But Oregon has a lot windy roads and few straight stretches. best of luck reaching your top speed.

I seriously doubt a stock Si can get anywhere near 173mph. I just bought a Mazdaspeed3 and Top Speed is about 160mph electronically limited. Once Cobb Tuning and other ECU companies come out, that number will increase greatly.

Re: True top speed of the 06 Si

although I am not doubting you going in the 140's, you have to remember that the si that was dyno'd to 157 or whatever it was had no wind resistance to it. the dyno was only measuring gearing and top possible speed. with anything traveling past freeway speeds of 65-75 mph, your wind resistance grows exponentially.

good example - look on youtube for the top speed test of a bugatti veyron (you know, the 1,001 hp quad turbo 16 cylinder $1.2 mil car) which was done on volkswagen's test track in germany. they state in the video that it only takes it around 250 or so horsepower to get to 150 mph but an additional 751 hp to get it to its top speed of 253 mph. if they were sitting still on a dyno they prob would be closer to 300 mph with the gearing
