Rep Power: 0 is my honda civic okay? 5w30 synthetic blend in a 5w20 conventional?
first post here, car n00b as well
i drive a 8th gen honda civic. manual says 5w20 conventional oil
went to NTB to get an oil change. they put 5w30 synthetic blend. so is my car okay?
i googled 5w30 in a 5w20, so i understand the difference now. majority of sites on google say it's okay.
also, i'm not sure what a "synthetic blend" is. it is not a full synthetic so again not sure what it is
is my car okay?

It's fine.
These engines are pretty tough.
I've seen three come in with literally only 5 drops of oil, and the rest sludge, they roll out sounding normal.
Theoretically the 30 operational temperature viscosity is over spec from the 20 and could cause slight over pressurization.
But many engines list multiple factory specs.
BMW 5w30, 5w40
dodge 5w30, 10w30
honda 0w20 ("if you can not find 0w20 5w20 is fine to run, but 0w20 must be used next service" ~All Data Pro)
And I have personally run 5w30 in my 02 civic twice, because it does have higher oil film retention, which is better for engine wear.
The major downsides to running thinner oil is loss of fuel efficiency and power.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

5w30 won't hurt, but if you are worried you could go back to the shop and make them do it over and install the correct fluid as specified by Honda.
You should edit that to read 'thicker' oil

5w30 is fine over in country's like Europe the same engine here in
north America that calls for 0w20 or 5w20 oil is using 5w30 or 5w40
in Europe again same exact engine as here as far as using a semi synthetic
blend I would step it up to a full synthetic oil just because synthetic blend to me is sort of like only getting half the benefits compared to using a full synthetic oil.
