2014 SI Window Tints (8% vs 15%)

Just got my 2014 SI in white, came with 8% (according to dude at the shop, maybe 5% tho) tints on the rear 3 windows. I wanna tint my front 2 windows, but not sure if I wanna go that dark because of visibility (and attention from cops. all front tints are illegal in NJ). However, I want it to look consistent. I like 15% and considered stripping the rear tints and getting that all around, but the guy at the shop warned me there's a chance stripping the rear windshield tints could damage the defroster or antenna (plus its an extra 100 bucks to get it removed)

So...my two options are to tint the front 2 at 15%, or tint all 4 windows at 15% and leave the rear windhsield at 8% (recommended by the dude at the shop).

Which do you think would look weirder? Although having all 4 be at 15% would look more consistent from the side, I feel like its weird to have the rear windshield the only one at 8%. Do you think going from 8% to 15% on the front 2 would flow nicely? Any photo examples?

Thanks

They will ticket locals in my area. Guess that is what they do in NJ? Maybe if you were out of state, they may let it slide. Know in Fl, they can be pretty dark. However, in VA, the law says no. Probably since the police cannot see who they are dealing with I guess. I was not even aware the tint would come off the back two and rear. Though it was in the glass. Know my CRV rear side and hatch are as dark as the moon roof. It really cuts down on visibility out the back rear at night.

Check out your states dept of public safety or motor vehicles to find out the limits are for sure. I like the dude at the shops recommendation, back 3 dark, front two less so. I even have a lighter strip across the top of the windshield. Check out my car pics. The tint adds a lot to the heat and sun damage reduction (important where I live) and also looks good. But yes if it is dark and raining you better be real careful backing up!

The limits in my state are any darkness in the rear and no tints allowed in front. I see tinted cars all the time, though, and apparently cops dont care too much. Ill take the risk.

The guy at the shop actually recommended leaving the single rear window darker, and making the other 4 lighter. That way, it looks consistent from the side. It just seems weird to me, though, but maybe the best option

I'm thinking now to just tint the front 2, see how it looks, and if I wanna do the back 2 do that later. Any suggestions/examples of having the rear windshield darker than the rest of the windows?

Just to clarify, when you say x%, are you talking about percentage of light transmitted or percentage of light attenuated? Every time I've talked to shops about tint, they're referring to the former of the two choices (e.g. 5% tint is 5% light transmitted -- limo tint)

light transmitted.

Ive also realized it's not 8%, but Solar Gard Supreme 8, which equals 5% for some reason. Confusing
