Rep Power: 0 A few maintenance questions...
I am in the process of purchasing an 07 1.8L EX 5-speed manual. I was looking for some info on maintenance intervals for the transmission. I usually use Super tech synthetic oil for engine. 5k mile intervals. What about transmission? What oil do I use, and how often do I change it. I drive 35k miles a year. Half of my drive to work is 2 lane state rt road and half is interstate. I live in Southern Ohio so the winters get pretty cold and lots of salt on the road. Thanks for the help!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: A few maintenance questions...
You could follow the maintenance minder suggestion for service, or do it more often if you wish.
At work we still suggest 30k intervals, even for manual transmission.
Honda has their own manual trans fluid. It only holds a little under 2 quarts.

Re: A few maintenance questions...
The redline fluid specs are? Equivalent of 80w90? GF4? ATF?
Got any idea what spec fluid the Honda trans needs?
I don't, and they do not tell us the spec of the fluid they use. All I know is it is absolutely correct for the trans, without question.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of OEM fluids most of the time........ I get to see so much stuff that comes from other shops with unusual issues we just don't normally see in the cars serviced exclusively at our dealer.
Coolant and water pump life is one example. Water pump life expectancy has gone up dramatically in the last decade or so, as long as the correct fluid is used. 300,000 miles on a pump used to be unheard of, now it's typical.
Use the wrong power steering fluid? Bzzzzt--bad move.
