Rep Power: 0 Maintenance on '14 Civic... how often?
Hi everyone. I've got a 2014 Civic with close to 19k miles on it. So far, the only maintenance I've done on the car is having the tires rotated and oil changed when the maintenance minder light came on (around 10k miles).
The oil life is currently at 20%, so I figure I will wait for the next maintenance minder to come on (at 15%) before taking it in for servicing....
However! It seems strange to me that there's such a large gap between services, and I'm not even sure what needs to be checked/done on the car anyway. Should I be taking it in for service even if the maintenance minder light isn't on, or wait for the maintenance minder to tell me what needs to get serviced, or... are there some standard things I should be checking on my own between services anyway?
A little more info: I bought the car new, check the tire pressure regularly, usually drive in free flowing traffic about 200 miles a week and occasionally really long drives (a few ~400 mile trips after the oil change). I'll also mention I'm pretty inept when it comes to cars but am totally willing to research and teach myself!

It is best to check the oil your self and service it if it shows signs of burning.
Those maintenance lights are not perfect.
They do monitor level and how you drive but they don't actually test the oil and they have no Idea what oil was put in. So if someone uses the wrong oil, you won't know until the low engine oil light comes on and your engine is loaded with carbon from burnt oil.
I never run my oil until it's "Due" because I do not want carbon build up, I dump it before it starts to burn.

Whatever the MM tells you is what Honda engineers decided was best for the car (that is assuming you are using Honda fluids which I recommend).
60k does seem a little long for ATF.
