I woke up to discover that my 2010 Honda Civic Si will not run above 3000 RPM's. After looking under my hood I found some wires chewed through on the engine. There is a navy blue plastic connection with 3 wires chewed flush. Those wire are supposed to be connected to the other set of wires that have copper fraying exposed right above it. My check engine light is on as well as my VSA light on the dash. Does anyone know what this part of the engine is? Any ideas on how much this will cost?

Do you have any soldering skills or equipment ??

May just involve connecting loose wires back to 3 pin connector.

I do, but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that kind of work on a car engine.

Can you get any idea of wire colors where they are cut close at the 3 pin plug ???

....if not you may need to get that info from another owner, or another 8th gen Si.

If those match your loose wires.... and you CAN still make a connection at the plug it would be pretty easy fix.

I can take a closer look when I get off work. I also took this in to Pep Boys and they pulled this code up.

Easy and cheap is to patch the damaged wiring. I do this all the time, we have plenty of rodent problems in my area. It can be tedious and requires a bit of skill, but very doable and reliable when done by someone with experience and care.
It also helps to have a selection of scrapped/used wire harnesses to scavenge terminals and connectors from.

The only way to repair using what's offered in the factory parts catalog is to replace the entire engine wiring harness, and that ain't easy or cheap.


Next trick will be to stop the rodents from enjoying your engine compartment.

Not a mechanic but... that is likely the sensor that the blue connector is attached too.

MAP/Baro.

It is the MAP sensor.

Is this something that I should let a dealer take care of or can I order the part and put it in myself?

One more question. Is the map sensor just the plastic piece attached to the engine? Will it come with wires or will I have to get a wire assembly harness?

The sensor will only have the pins, and provisions for the blue connector to attach too.

As mentioned the harness is only available as the COMPLETE engine harness.

Your best bet will be work with what you have.

You don't need the MAP sensor itself, it's fine.

You need to fix the wire harness.

Remove the chewed connector from the sensor and check it out.

Put mouse poison around where your car is parked / stored. These b tard rodents can rake havoc. I had them eat the speakers out of a boat I owned. Place a small container of water for them. When they eat the poison they get thirsty and look for water, the poison makes it boil in them .

Some time ago my GF came over and said her car was running bad and the CEL was flashing..... Raised the hood and saw critters had eaten 2 of the spark plug wires off.

Some trays of D-Con went on their garage floor that day.
