Alcohol damage to shifter plate.

I was using isopropyl alcohol to clean a pen mark on my headliner, when some splashed onto the plate under the gearshift ( the plastic plate with park drive neutral, and reverse on it.) it dulled it in that spot and a spit shine would even it out. So I used more thinking maybe dirty. Now it looks dulled. I'm thinking it may have eaten the plastic shiny coating and would like to make it shiny again. Any advice?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Alcohol damage to shifter plate.

Buff it out (like a plastic headlight restoration) or buy a new one?

Yea either is viable, but I don't know what to use to buff. Or where to buy a new one. I heard taking it apart isn't hard.

Headlight restoration kit from a parts store?

You can do the same using toothpaste as the polishing compound too.

I guess it would depend on how deep the damage is though.

Or where to buy a new one.
Dealer or maybe a junkyard if you don't mind used.

Majestic Honda is in R.I. and is cheap http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/
Pick out your car, choose "select lever" for the shifter picture.

I'll try the toothpaste. Then I'll see how much for replacement. Thanks a lot.
