Redline in neutral...stupid.

Hey guys,
I have the 2012 Honda Civic SI with about 10k on the motor. Like an idiot, I was driving, threw it in neutral for a second, then accidently gassed it without initially realizing I was still in neutral. I redlined for only a split second (7,000 RPM) engaging the ivtec and everything. The motor seemed fine, it was already warm from driving, and I've never done it before. Do I have to worry? I feel terrible; I'm usually more careful...

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

You are still driving it, right?
You aren't screaming that it made a loud noise and quit, died, stranded you, or anything else.

Rev limiter KEEPS you from harming the engine.
It didn't do anything it wasn't designed to be capable of.

It is fine.

Now if you were tooling along at 80 MPH and shoved it into 2nd and dumped the clutch, you might still be picking up pieces of the engine off of the side of the road.
That would take it far beyond design limits. And might not be covered by warranty if you did manage to do it.

Re: Redline in neutral...stupid.

That's all funny Q & A.

New car owner. lol.

'ezone' covered it but yeah 1 second at the limit in a warmed up car shouldn't be a problem.

My sister had a '78 Civic back in the day and learned to drive standard on it. She seemed to be under the impression that you had to reach red line... and stay on it ..... for about 30 seconds before up shifting. Even that Civic took it like a champ .... for months .... until she rolled it 5 times .... 3 times bumper to bumper then a couple more side to side .... ended up wheels up in the ditch with the engine running (probably at redline). She walked away from that and to this day has no ill effects from that crash.

'My little testament to the Civic'
