Can anyone confirm if the 2012 honda civic can still tow up to 1000lbs? can't seem to find the info anywhere. Thinking of buying one, but i have a small boat that i may occasionally tow, its no more than 500lbs.

An old thread (https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...-capacity.html) says that those models could tow around 1100 pounds, and they make trailer hitches for 2000 pounds (http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2012_Honda_Civic.htm), but I don't know the specifics

Check out the pics for this product; http://www.amazon.com/Reese-Towpower...=1US7O91CGUZAH
That is for the 6th gen. Look under the back of your 9th gen Civic. Does it have a rail on each side where the bumper thingies are with pre-drilled holes and a center tow hook/loop? That's how the hitch would install.
TrRookie's etrailer link is helpful

It is stated in the owner's manual. This is one of the feats that sold this car. Many other new cars have no capacity at all. I plan to do the same as you. Add up your weight for the trailer, boat, motor and gear. If you are still under that 1,000lbs, you still should be good.

Automatic or manual? I recently installed a hitch on my automatic sedan (for my small 5x7 trailer that I use for my bike and my scooter if I need to take anywhere).
With the rear gate down got 33 mpg, gate up was about 22-23, not that big of a trailer, only about 200 lbs itself.
For short distances it would be fine, but if you live in a hilly area and you plan on something 1,500-2,000 lbs I would not recommend it.
I just picked up a scooter a few states away, had to feather the pedal all the way just to keep it in 5th gear and not downshift, about 71-80 mph.
