Accessory belt replacement

I'm not near my usual resources and need your guys help.

07 civic needs a fresh belt. I cant find the "typical" belt adjusters but did find a ~19mm hex near the center pulley, but I cant get it to move.

Anybody have some pointers for tension release so I can change the belt?

Re: Accessory belt replacement

I haven't changed the belt in a Civic yet.

But in most cars, find the tensioner pulley on the little chart in the engine bay or in the owner's manual.

Put a socket and long handled wrench on the nut on the tensioner pulley.

Usually you pull it towards the front of the car to release the tension on the belt. Then slip the belt off.

When putting on the new belt, remember that the ribbed side of the belt goes against the ribbed pulleys and the smooth side goes against smooth pulleys.

Make sure the belt is lined up properly on every pulley before starting the engine.

Re: Accessory belt replacement

Oh and, if the tensioner or idler pulley(s) feel like they don't spin easily, replace them.

Some of the nuts holding the pulleys on will be reverse threaded (opposite of lefty loosey).
