Rep Power: 0 Performance increase in aftermarket air filter?
Is it worth it to replace the stock intake air filter? Some guys on the web seemed to think it was not worth it, and naturally the filter sellers claim big improvements. What is your view on this? Any performance numbers?
I found a K&N filter on ebay for $42......but what will that really do for my car?
They say it is washable...do you just submerge it in hot soapy water for a few hours?
Thanks.

I put a K&N air filter in and saw no fuel savings at all...but it's good for the environment because your not trashing the old filter...I give it a +++++

Alright....does anyone have performance increase/decrease experience? I'm assuming that will also be null if the mpg doesn't change.
What if you are turbo/super charging? Perhaps then you would see a difference.

Are you talking bout having the stock air box and putting another filter in it. If so then it will not make a difference really. To make some power off your stock air box you can get one of the k&n filters for it and then gut out the airbox like the comptech, mugen, and arc airboxes and you will see an increase of whp by bout 3 or 4. That is the same amount of whp a SRI will give you actually maybe alittle more maybe depending on the size of the intake pipe and filter.

The stock airbox has alot of little trimmings and stuff bulging out of the wall. Just cut them out and smooth out the wall. This makes it like one big power chamber that has no restriction in it. It does work actually. Back when my car was bone stock I did this to my ep3. I first dynoed it and it was at 138.2 whp then I did the stock airbox mod which is gutting it out and went back and gained 3.6 whp off just gutting it out.

thinking about doing this to my si coupe...but in stead replace the airbox with a cone filter.....then removing the filter from the top box...the the box where you have the filter(that was removed) can act as a air chamber....i did this to my da integra and it saved me more gas and got a little more power(at high rpm)...
