Rep Power: 0 2010 Civic Touchy Throttle
First time poster here.
Just today picked up a brand new 2010 Civic LX. I've got a whole 3.8 miles on it now and MAN, does this thing take some getting use to. For the last 11 years I've been driving a nice, simple, low-tech '99 Civic LX 5 speed. The layout and features of this new 2010 are like a dang spaceship. I hate to be a ludite but all the sensors and electronic controls are a bit daunting.
Speaking of electronic, one thing that I did not notice when I test drove the car before buying it was the throttle quirkiness. That thing is really sensitive at low speeds. You just barely touch the peddle and off it wants to go. I know these new cars have the throttle by wire system. It makes me wonder if this sensitivity is normal or if this is something that will have to be adjusted by a mechanic? Has anybody else noticed this?

The '99 only has 112,000 miles on it and is in excellent shape. It would have lasted me another 10 years probably. A good reliable car is like an old friend. You hate to loose them. Now I have to hassle with selling it. The dealer only offered me $500 for it, which meant he didn't want to screw with it.

It will take some adjusting. You will also find if you are slowing like at a red light and suddenly it turns green and you give it a fair amount of throttle quickly it will do some strange things. You will quickly see what I mean, you have to ease back into the throttle to keep it smooth.
Also, when you 1st shift N to D wait a second or two before giving it the gas or you could get a rev before it engages.

Well, I've had this car almost a week now and the touchy throttle is no longer and issue. Hardly notice it now.
I must say, that his new Civic is exceeding my expectations. Smooth as silk and the automatic transmission shifts are seamless. The best thing is that it suffers from less road noise than my '99 Civic.
Even though I REALLY hate to do it, I gotta sell the '99.
