ABS sensor reset?

Hello Guys,

I'm new to the site. I have a 07 civic ex and I changed the front knuckle on the car after a real bad pot hole incident my wife had. The abs light was off and my brakes were working fine before I started the work. Now when I finished and reinstalled the knuckle and the accessories the abs light stays on. Is there any way to reset it or does anyone know of what the problem could be?
Thanks.

Re: ABS sensor reset?

The 7th gen info seems to say that the system will do a check each time car is started. There will be some DTCs stored but they may not be easy/cheap to read them.

How about the wiring going to wheel sensor & wheel sensor ?? Are they damaged in any way ??

Re: ABS sensor reset?

No the wiring seems okay. I checked both sides and are in good shape. I cleaned the sensor with a rag. But other than that no damage from what I can see.

Re: ABS sensor reset?

There was no ABS light before the work ??
Is there a connection to the wheel sensor that could be dis-connected and then re-seated ??

In the 7th gen manual there is a procedure to retrieve the codes. It may be true for 8th gens as well. You would need the factory manual to be sure of exact procedure and code list.

I'm not sure if anyone here has the 8th gen manuals yet.

Re: ABS sensor reset?

That is correct. Everything was fine before the work was done. What the connection has a hole next to the sensor where the bolt goes in and screws to the knuckle. The actual sensor goes through the knuckle. I don't see any disconnect of any type by the wheel.

Re: ABS sensor reset?

I may have told you wrong on being able to access codes stored. It may require a Honda reader.

The test procedure is checking for pulses from the wheel sensors while turning the wheel by hand.

Re: ABS sensor reset?

This is what I did last night. I lifted the front tire and I located a disconnect on the inside of the fender and unplugged and plugged it back in. With the car on and in neutral I turned the wheel by hand to see if it would check for pulse. Also I disconnected the battery and reconnected it after a few minutes and the light is still on. I also changed the wheel bearing out and I wonder if that has something to do with it. Maybe it is not in the correct clearance from the sensor...

Re: ABS sensor reset?

I have been going through this exact same problem. I was advised to go to the stealership as only they are able to clear this code. Any input?

Re: ABS sensor reset?

Hey guys! Sorry I didn't get back to site sooner. This is what happened, apparently when I changed the knuckle and installed a new wheel bearing, I installed the wheel bearing backwards. The wheel bearing has a side that is metal and that makes contact with the ABS sensor. The other side I believe has a rubber or plastic ring and that prevented the reading. Also the ABS sensor has a metal ring and was missing(never saw the ring when I removed the sensor, so the dealer says) and it created rust and that made the sensor go bad. I took it to the dealer and it cost around 600 dollars to turn of the light.. Yeah a little ridiculous if you ask me... But all in all if you are going to replace the wheel bearing make sure it goes in the correct way.

Good luck to all!
