Check Engine Light

Everytime i mess around with the air filter or the air filter box, the check engine light comes on. i don't have any intake or anything on it, i just installed a K&N filter, but it did that before i put it in. i was just wondering if this happens to anyone else, maybe i am not pushing the plug in enough. it goes off in a day or two but still very weird.

Re: Check Engine Light

By a K@N filter, do you mean the standard K@N drop in filter that is made for 06-07 civics?? What do you mean you "mess around" with the filter or box??? With the install of a new filter it could be a few things. I have a new civic so i'm not sure if there are sensors that detect the opening or closing of the air box. The code that is being thrown by ur computer is most likely the mass air flow meter sensor. If you put in a new filter that works better, the temp of rate of flow of the air could be different and lead ur onboard computer to think that there is something wrong with the air intake. But once after a few cold starts it realizes that the air is getting in and is the right temp, the computer turns it off. That's the best i can do for now. Remember, ur on board computer is like a women, it doesn't like to be ****ed with unless it knows what ur doing with it, so make sure you know what it is your doing exactly.

Re: Check Engine Light

if you are disconnecting the harness to the sensor on the aifilter box then it trips the CEL, to get rid of it disconnect the NEG- battery and put it back on to reset it, but then have the engine only idle for 10 minutes after starting the car so the computer can do its thing.
