EX Sedan Cruise Control Fails To Set

My '06 EX Sedan has had an intermittent problem where I cannot "set" the cruise control. It will always activate, but not always "set". This occurs about half the time. The dealer was unable to reproduce this issue, checked the codes and found nothing.

Has anyone else had this happen to their Civic? Any thoughts?

Nope Mines Always Worked Fine, However I Hardly Use It, Does It Seem To Do It More At A Given Speed Range Than Others?

This issue occurs at all speeds over 9mph. The manual states that the car must be traveling faster than 9mph to set the cruise. It seems to be an "all-or-nothing" problem where if it works once during the trip, it will work for the whole trip.

Thats A Really Weird Problem, Usually Cruise Works Or It Doesnt, Take It To The Dealer Tell Them To Keep It As Long As It Takes To Duplicate The Problem, Give Them Permission To Let One Of Their Technicians Drive It Home If Necessary.

I would never ever ever let a tech drive my car home or for any long distance. These guys don't give a crap about anyones car but their own.

you are very very wrong there sir, I can not speak for all dealers but my technicians take very good care of each and every car they work on and drive.
that is pretty insulting comment to make.

Yeah, likewise here. My tech guy lives and breathes Honda 24/7. He is extra careful when test driving vehicles. He even moonlights in the evening from his home. It seems that he just can't get enough of these cars.

I believe 25 MPH is the bottom for cruise control. I think it is in the manual.

Thank you for the suggestions. I think I found the root cause; ME!. I discovered that I often rest my foot on the clutch pedal of my 5-speed EX while driving, and this trips the switch. Kudos to member "frotrk" for suggesting the brake pedal switch. I have been more aware of left-foot placement and the cruise now works as designed.

Thanks Again!

Re: EX Sedan Cruise Control Fails To Set

Likewise. I think it took me about six months to figure it out but i actually remember where i was when it dawned on me. I was driving across the causeway bridge and for some reason i took my foot off the clutch. Not even to test it, i just took my foot off and all of a sudden the cruise engaged when i pressed the button. I knew (from my mom's MDX) that pressing the brake disengaged the cruise on an automatic but my previous car (truck, actually) though a standard as well, had a seating position that made it uncomfortable to rest my foot on the clutch (pickup, duh) so i never had that problem in that vehicle so it took awhile for me to figure it out in my civic

Question Re: EX Sedan Cruise Control Fails To Set

Hey all, I'm new in here, and hopping to find some info about my problem. I own a '06 LX Civic 4dr. I bought it few weeks ago (used car at the dealer). When pressing the ''cruise'' button, the cruise green light will come ''ON'', but then, pressing the ''set'' button will not hold the speed. I've tried this several times on the highway, with the same result every time. Seems like i can activate the Cruise, but I cannot engage it to maintain a certain speed. Any thoughts ?

Thanks.

Re: EX Sedan Cruise Control Fails To Set

could be a brake pedal switch problem. if it thinks the brake is being pressed, it will not let you enter cruise mode. i am guessing the cruise icon does not come on in the dash either.

Re: EX Sedan Cruise Control Fails To Set

Well the '' Cruise main'' green light comes on in the dash, but, in fact, not the other one. I'm gonna try to find some info about the switch you are talking about. Thanks!

Re: EX Sedan Cruise Control Fails To Set

look under the brake pedal. it pushes a switch when the pedal moves back. the green light on the switch itself is useless, all that tells you is the switch is pushed on. you can take the whole cruise system out of the car and the light will still come on when you press the button..

Re: EX Sedan Cruise Control Fails To Set

In fact, I found out the the switch under the brake pedal is broken, but ''fixed'' with 2 small ty-rap.. I guess i should be looking fow a new switch. Do you know if replacing it requires any special adjustment or is it prtty straightforward to replace? Besides of that, i don't see what could be the cause of my issue.

Also,I' d like to find some... wiring diagrams or any plans concerning the cruise control system to help me in my investigations. Where can I find something like that ?

Thanks
