Honda Civic 8-9 gen reliability - better info

I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that made the differences between cars clearer. So a few years ago I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track cars closely as they age.

We've had very good participation by Civic owners. Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, following the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the Civic, for free. I'll share results for the Civic in this thread after each update.

Um... They don't tolerate abuse and neglect very well...

And no matter how cool flying a car might look on TV, these just aren't built to do that.
(I actually told a customer this a couple days ago, the worst 2007 Odyssey I've ever seen, broken stuff I've never ever seen broken.... he blamed the kids driving it for all the abuse.)

Honestly?
The van is the only Honda big enough to haul his wheelchairs.

Seriously. And his kids drive the van too.

He's got an off road wheelchair he hauls in the back of it.
Something like this one

He's a former employee too.

EDIT some more: I can't read. I have no idea why his precious snowflakes are driving his van.

Re: Honda Civic 8-9 gen reliability - better info

New stuff this time. We've updated our reliability stats for the Civic to include owner experiences through the end of 2014. Plus we've added reliability trends graphs. These indicate how a model's reliability has changed as it has aged, and how different model years performed when the same age.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2014 Civic: 0, low
2013 Civic: 7, low
2012 Civic: 14, low
2011 Civic: 10, low
2010 Civic: 23, low
2009 Civic: 27, low
2008 Civic: 25, low
2007 Civic: 33, low
2006 Civic: 62, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2013 Civic: 92, < 1
2012 Civic: 88, < 1
2010 Civic: 83, < 1
2009 Civic: 80, < 1
2008 Civic: 83, 2
2007 Civic: 73, 5
2006 Civic: 48, < 1

We'll have further updates in May and in August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

Re: Honda Civic 8-9 gen reliability - better info

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the Civic now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2014 Civic: 5, low
2013 Civic: 2, low
2012 Civic: 13, low
2011 Civic: 15, low
2010 Civic: 23, low
2009 Civic: 28, low
2008 Civic: 27, low
2007 Civic: 37, low
2006 Civic: 61, low, but much higher than subsequent model years

Plus, the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2013 Civic: 97, < 1
2012 Civic: 84, < 1
2010 Civic: 81, < 1
2009 Civic: 77, < 1
2008 Civic: 78, 2
2007 Civic: 75, 5
2006 Civic: 49, < 1

Next updates in late August and November. Additional participants always good to have.

Re: Honda Civic 8-9 gen reliability - better info

Our reliability stats for the Civic now cover the year ending June 30, 2015.

Repair trips per 100 cars:

2015 Civic: 0, low, small sample size
2014 Civic: 8, low
2013 Civic: 2, low
2012 Civic: 16, low
2011 Civic: 15, low
2010 Civic: 31, low
2009 Civic: 20, low
2008 Civic: 31, low
2007 Civic: 28, low
2006 Civic: 57, low

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2013 Civic: 97, < 1
2012 Civic: 82, < 1
2010 Civic: 74, < 1
2009 Civic: 80, < 1
2008 Civic: 73, 2
2007 Civic: 89, 5
2006 Civic: 54, < 1

If a model year isn't listed, or its sample size is small, then we especially need more owners involved.
