I have a 2006 Honda Civic EX 1.8L. I was told by the Honda Dealership that the timing belt needs to be replaced along with the water pump etc. I have a local shop who quoted me on replacing the water pump, replacement of (chain) **not belt according to him**, tensioners, arm chain tensioners, guide cam, sprockets, head cover gaskets, thermostat, spark plugs. coolant flush. what is LOF? over all quote for this is $905.55 labor and parts!! My civic has 119,000 miles, what service should i be doing? I can do the plugs my self so i will be asking that be removed from the list.
Any suggestions?!

Re: Timing belt or timing chain...
The dealer telling you you have a timing belt on your R18 would concern me. Are you sure they were not talking about the serpentine belt ? (which would be due)
What is the reason for this timing chain work ??
The plugs,drive belt,coolant would be due if not done already.
If those are original plugs in place...? I would let a mechanic deal with it.
LOF = Lube Oil Filter.

when i contacted the dealership for schedule services and maintenance they suggest "timing belt" replacement. He even printed out the page where it refers to it as such. The mechanic i am talking to works on imports and he insists that the dealership is using "timing belt" on all of their service manuals for that year instead of changing it to specify the chain. I am only looking at servicing it because of the mileage etc. No driveability issues as of yet, i had the trans serviced 5k miles ago. Plugs, drive belt, coolant has not been serviced so i defenatly get that done.
