Steering at H/way speeds

During a recent roadtrip, My Civic suddenly darted to the left. It only lasted for a split second, but then began to do it a couple times more @ 75mph. Also the steering wheel acts almost like the power steering is grabbing, making the wheel twitch while I'm going in a straight line. P/S fluid was a bit low so I filled it up. The car usually rides fine at hway speed no odd vibrations for a car with 283K. I looked underneath and nothing looks messed up with the suspension and the wheel weights are still in place. Any ideas what could be going on?.

Peace Out!

Re: Steering at H/way speeds

probably suspension related. make sure your stuff is tight like tie rods and control arms, and have the alignment checked. something seems like its loose and could cause a big problem later.

Re: Steering at H/way speeds

Hi i looked under the car today and noticed the drivers side CV boot is split right around. Could that be contributing to the problem?.. I can see the guts of the CV joint, but there's no clicking when I turn...

thanks

Re: Steering at H/way speeds

get it fixed quickly, before the joint goes bad from no grease. i dont think that will cause any problem unless its bad already. then yes it could cause the car to pull one direction.

Re: Steering at H/way speeds

As an fyi, when i did a detailed inspection underneath, ended up replacing the axle (torn CV boot) , steering rack boot (also torn), drivers side ball joint and both tie rods. So far so good. Taking it on a long road trip today - we'll see how that goes. Peace Out!
