I have a Honda Civic 1996. My car was idle for about two years and now i've started to drive it again in VA. The check engine light came on the day i started driving it. Since i also need an emissions inspection done, the mechanic failed it and told me that the Idle speed control motor needs to be cleaned, and then he'd see if that fixed the check engine light.
The price that he quoted me for the cleaning of the idle speed control motor, including an oil change, windshield wipers change and costs of inspection, and i guess labor is $300.
Does this sound normal? Thanks in advance.

it takes maybe 10 minutes to take off the idle air sensor and spray it with carb cleaner. just do it yourself. its usually bolted on or near the throttle body and intake manifold and has coolant lines going into it.

Jobs wanted in boulder or louisville colorado.
PM me if you know companies that are hiring.
Definitely do that yourself. Did you get any codes for the check engine light??? Take it to a different mechanic, 300 dollars is a lot of money for something a DIY'r can do by themselves in an hour and spend only 50 bucks on parts for the oil change, wipers, and throttle body cleaner.
