I recently lost my baby (a 76 dodge D100 w/ a 440 and 727 torque flight) to an absent minded woman turning left across traffic. To get me moving again, I'm in the process of buying a 95 Honda LX with a vtec engine with 280k miles on it. Its a manual and it burns a little oil, but its a Honda, so I figure i should be able to squeeze a few more miles out of it before a major rebuild is required. Anyways, I have a few questions:
1) What engine does this car have? I'm pretty sure its a 1.5 and I know is a vtec but I'd like to know the name so I can do some more extensive research and I'm having trouble finding this info.
2) This car is ugly as sin, but im not much into the ricer scene and I dont care about looks, but I want a quick car. Is this engine/ car a good platform to tune some nice 1/4 mile times out of?
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I appreciate any responses.

eeh not without alot of money and engine work. prolly not worth it if you want a reliable car. and yea i think it has 1.5L engine. there should be a stamp somewhere on the block telling you which engine type it is.

PM me if you know companies that are hiring.
Well, right now were negotiating a price, they said they want around 250 so if it runs for 6 mos, I'll be happy. I realize if I wanted to boost it or put nitrous on board it'd have to be rebuilt, my question is simply is that engine (disregarding current condition) a good platform to work off of.
well the engine is prolly fine, those old ones were built pretty well. im not sure how many upgrade parts are available tho. and it was a lower hp engine. i think around 60-80hp.

Buy it and drive it until it dies. Putting money into a car that old in that condition with that many miles is a bad idea. For what you will spend on fixing it up, you can buy something much newer. Lets face it, you are not talking about a collectible muscle car you want to restore....
