Tranny woes

Hello Gentlemen,

The automatic transmission in my ’97 Civic LX (1.6L v4) started slipping in low gear when it was hot. The first time this happened the check-engine light came on. I took it in and the scan showed:

* PO420 – exhaust convertor (yah, I know, yet another problem)
* PO700 – transmission fault in controller
* PO715 – Input speed sensor fault

Mitch thought the trans fluid looked ok and suggested we change out the tranny’s main pickup assembly and linear solenoid (a $500 job). This did nothing. Now he says it’s time to put in a used tranny ($800). The total for all this is $1,821.35.

Based on those codes, do you believe changing out the assembly and solenoid was the correct first step? Anything else we should look at before swapping out the tranny?

Thank you so much!!

Sandy

Re: Tranny woes

i wouldve changed the trans right away. usually thats the cheapest and easiest option. slipping gears means its toast inside and must be completely rebuilt or replaced.
