97 civic dx automatic sedan. I took the tranny out the wrong way. I seperated the tranny from the motor without removing the eight torque converter bolts that mount to the flex plate. So now the motor has the converter on. I'm trying now to get the torque converter off the motor crank side. It's loose but seems to want to stay where it is. Do I need to pry it off? I don't know how they come off(1st time doing a tranny) How would a converter come off the motor side? I need to put the converter back on the tranny before I can reinstall the tranny, Right?
Please help, I'm trying to finish this today

I was told the converter had to be put on the tranny first, then attach to motor. Do I just put the tranny on without the converter in the tranny side?
take the converter off the engine, make sure u removed all bolts holding converter to automatic flywheel, then i would tap on it as u spin the crank, itll start to break free. then inspect the flywheel for damage since u pulled trans and torque converter stayed there. u do not want a bent flywheel in there, cuz it will vibrate worse and worse the higher the rpms go

Thanks, for the info. I'm going to try to rotate and tap the converter off. Hopefully nothing got wrecked. Is there any trick to installing the converter on the tranny shaft? Do u turn on all the way or do u tap in on?
Thanks. I got the converter and flywheel off(was stuck pretty good on there). Now I put the converter in the tranny. The starter gear doesn't turn out far enough by hand for the gears on the flywheel. Is that right or is the converter not down all the way. It seems to be all the way down but hard to tell for certain. The splines did match up when I twisted it on. Maybe the starter gear gets pushed out farther when the solenoid and battery are hooked up?
the starter shoudl hook up with the flywheel only during starting, otherwise the starter would be spinning all the time since the flywheel spins all the time. these things only go on one way, and as long as the bellhousing is mated to the block properly, ull be fine!

I know that the starter gear only pops out during starting, but what I meant was when I pulled out the starter gear all the way by hand it doesn't come out far enough to make contact with the flywheel. That's why I thought my converter wasn't in all the way. Does the starter gear pop out even farther when used with the starter solenoid than when I pull it out manually by hand?
The only reason I ask is, too me right know I don't think the starter gear will pop out far enough to make contact with the flywheel.
