won't start after tranny swap

Automatic swap in a 97 civic dx. Car started fine befor ethe swap. I replaced the tranny without taking the motor out. Doesn't turn over now. Battery good, terminals good. Checked all the elect. plugs many times, they seem all connected good. When u turn the key u get one click sound when u turn it on and one click when u let turn the key off. Is there a plug in that tells the car what gear the tranny is in? I shifted the tranny and the lighted dash gear pattern follows along with my manual shifting on the dash. I sanded the wire from the tranny to the body, that seems good. I ran another ground from the neg on batt. to the motor. I replaced the starter with my original one, that one did work for sure. I didn't replace the starter soleinod though could that be it and is that right next to the starter with a little black ground plug in and a 12mm brass nut on the power cable? What is my best chances to check 1st?

Anybody's help is greatly appreciatted! Need to get running very soon

Re: won't start after tranny swap

Are you hearing the clicks as you turn the car key to the on position or when you turn it past that point to start the engine?

If it's clicking in the start position (while cranking) then it may be the solenoid clicking but not engaging.

I've posted some pic's below to try and help you figure out what parts are which... They change starters on me frequently and I'm not positive this is yours but it will help you a little bit with what's what. You can try the solenoid and see if it helps.

Now it could also be a bad ground somewhere... there is a ground strap around the top of the tranny that might not have a great contact. Try cleaning this as well to be sure.

Re: won't start after tranny swap

When I turn the key to start, there's one loud click and I that's the sound of the starter solenoid(because I bench tested my other starter with the solenoid and it made that same sound). So I beleive the problem does not exist with the starter and starter solenoid. I sanded down and cleaned the ground strap on top of the tranny to body ground(so that's probably not it). I tried running grounds from the neg. batt. post to the motor and tranny casing for more grounds. What do I need to check next? Could it be an elect. plug or something to do with a clutch restart or something of that matter? Again the motor doesn't turn over just one click of the starter and u can hear the fuel pump kick in but no motor rotation.

Re: won't start after tranny swap

Found out the car won't roll in neutral. Did more research(which I should have does first time around) and I removed the tranny incorrectly. I never took out the eight torque converter bolts, so when I removed the tranny the converter stayed attached to the motor. So the converter never got alligned up correctly all the way up. So I took the tranny out again and the eight torque convertor bolts. Trying now to get the torque converter off the motor and flex plate side. It seems to be loose but still wants to stay where it is. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or do u have to pry the converter off the flex plate? I know now that the converter is supposed to stay with the tranny when u remove the tranny from the motor. But with it on the motor know what's the best way to get it off. Please help, I don't what to mess with this tranny much longer.
