Unhappy Catback Exhaust - **Newbie Idiot Alert**

Greetings! I will preface this by saying I am a newbie to the board, and have your Dad's 1997 Honda Civic LX 4DR. It's cool, runs nice, bought from original owner, etc.. No mods, or anything overly exciting... Anyway, I need a catback exhaust. Since it is my understanding that most of the parts are Canadian, everytime I need something, it costs me twice what I expect.. Alternator $300 and now catback exhaust for $570.

So I wandered onto Ebay, and I see different systems that will "fit" my car for a fraction of the cost I was told. Heck, if I can order one of the Ebay ones, a friend of mine can install it no problem. Thing is, I don't want to order one for $68, $118, or $138 (latter two free shipping) if it is not going to work. I feel like

What do I need to look for? They all say they will fit a Civic, LX, 92-00 - that fits the bill to say the least. Fitting are all good? I just want to make sure if I order it, that it will work. And of course, they are all no returns, yada, yada...

Is this because I am eliminating the middle-man? Or am I Mr. Stupid and tossing away $138? It seems too good.

Anyway, thanks in advance, and I apologize for the rookie question if that is how it comes across. I just want my exhaust replaced, without having to give up a kidney in the process.

The ebay ones are a gamble. They arent anything fancy, hell, they arent even engineered. They are just pipes that fit together that should fit on your car. Emphasis on should. If you want a real exahust go with one of the brand name ones, or take your chances with the no-name ebay stuff. Btw, the prices you quoted for those two parts sound correct for brand name parts.

Firstly, thanks for the reply - I am truthfully lost with this and want to make sure that I at least get something that fits!

So it looks like the one for $118 - $138 might be a good gamble. That sounds fair. My fear is getting this box of pipes and finding out they are for a kid's swingset!

The one I am eyeing up is this:

Thoughts? Is this worth the $118? I realize it is hard to look at pics and say "yes!! This is the one!!" but maybe the pic/description helps??

Thanks

Remember those old folgers coffee cans? Save yourself some money. Cut a hole in the can. Weld it on over your stock exhaust tip and drill some holes in the stock muffler. viola! Your fried rice is done.

That looks pretty basic, no thrills or anything. I dont see any things that stand out that make it better over the competition, but I also dont see anything that stands out to say its not going to work, because it probably will.. just the quality wont be all there which you would get with a brand name exhaust. That silencer looks pretty gay too, good thing its removable.

Cool, then I will order it - no thrills or whatnot is perfectly fine. Again, I was just looking to get something that will fit and work! As far as the silencer, that's fine - again, if the thing fits, I'll be silenced.
