Re: 2001 Civic Loud Engine Noise

has it ever had a valve adjustment? maybe take off the timing cover too and see if anything is rubbing with the cam gear.

Re: 2001 Civic Loud Engine Noise

Some of the other items that would be due at 110k may be failing if they were not replaced at 60k (tensioner, water pump etc)

I always thought the cycle for for this series was 110k ??

Thankd for the reply. At 60 k had the timing belt, water pump, tensioner ( The Honda reccomended timing belt work) replaced by Honda. The irony is that we were shopping for a replacement car at the time of failure. I am going to pull the top timing cover today and eyeball things.

Again, thanks all for the rapid responses.

Re: 2001 Civic Loud Engine Noise

If you have not found the problem yet then you should check the tensior for the belt. Not the one for the timing belt just the outer one near the bottom of the motor these fail alot, and give a grinding and somtimes either ticking or scraping noise like thin metal scraping. All you have to do is take off the belt and spin the tensior you will know is its that. i think its a 14 for the pully bolt and a 12 for the tension bolt.
