Blew my engine - need some help

I've got a 2001/51 'new model' Civic Coupe - unfortunately I blew my D17A1 engine

I ordered a second hand engine and it was a D17A9 - it's gone back but I ordered from another place and they said they had a D17A1 - when it arrived it looked identical to the D17A9 and has possibly had the engine number filed down and restamped as D17A1

Old engine:
Has steel sump
D17A1

New engine:
Looks almost identical except has aluminium sump
Has some kind of oil release valve on the engine top
claims to be a D17A1 but looks like the D17A9

So:

Will it be ok to put the D17A9 looking engine into the car?
What should the oil valve connect to - can it be disabled?

Any help is much appreciated - sorry if this is the wrong forum area.

Re: Blew my engine - need some help

its my understanding that the a9 is a vtec engine. if thats the case, it cannot be used with the a1 ecu, 1 set of valves will not open. u need to post a few pics of it, specificallly the back of the head, to see if it has a vtec solenoid, if it does, u cannot use it

ampong has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Re: Blew my engine - need some help

Sad to hear that. I think this can be but they differ some of it's parts since it's just almost identical.
