Re: D17 flywheel bolt!%#$#%!

Use the bar for your jack, puut it around the ratchet and have someone hold it on the head of the bolt. Use a 12pt socket too

Re: D17 flywheel bolt!%#$#%!

My mechanic seems to think he needs to. Should I crack him one for not even bothering to read my Chiltons?????

Don't even tell me it doesn't need to come off to do the timing belt..

Re: D17 flywheel bolt!%#$#%!

ummmmmm? flywheel is on the other side of the engine from the timing belt.
The only reason to ever remove the flywheel is if you are going to replace it with a lighter flywheel or if you are rebuilding the engine. There is really no reason to ever pull the flywheel.
Now the harmonic balancer pulley does need to be pulled in order to change the timing belt.

umm.. not to rain on any parades... but you should remove the flywheel and have it resurfaced whenever you put a new clutch in the car..because the flywheel wears and gets accustomed to the clutch that is wearing.. and if you put in a new clutch without resurfacing the old one or gettin a new one.. the clutch will have premature wear and last maybe half its time.... just an fyi...

but ya... i jus did it to mine with an impact gun.. came right off

Re: D17 flywheel bolt!%#$#%!

flat screwdriver in the flywheel where the starter is, and biiig breaker bar, takes two people, but it can be done, i just finished mine, or u can get the crank pulley holder from honda for like 80 bucks, i can get one from cornwell for 55, but i have tool trucks that come to my work, but it is really on there, torque is like 180ft/lbs plus 90 degrees, its a bitch to break free
