The Canadian Government is in dire need of money. In Ontario, Canada , Premier Dalton McGuinty announced that if you are caught speeding 31 mph (50 kph) over the speed limit, it will be considered that you were street racing, even if you're alone.
Getting caught street racing will set you back $10,000 (that US$ 9305), and serious jail time (up to 6 months). The new law also puts an enormous power in the hands of the Police, since all it'll take is the word of the officer that you were speeding.
The Safer Roads Act states "There is no appeal from, or right to be heard before, a vehicle detention, driver's license suspension or vehicle impoundment under the street racing subsection".
In order to make sure that they maximize the revenue they can generate from this new law, McGuinty proposes to hire 55 new traffic officers and buy a surveillance airplane. Judging by the costs, I'm quite sure that they have already established when they'll break even and start making a profit.

Statement by
The Honourable Donna Cansfield
Minister of Transportation
E.R.A.S.E. Launch
[Eliminate Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere]
If passed, the Safer Roads for a Safer Ontario Act, [Bill 203], would give police the power to immediately suspend licenses and impound vehicles for seven days when drivers are involved in street racing and stunt driving.
It would also put in place the highest street racing fines in Canada. Minimum fines would increase from $200 to $2,000 and maximum fines would go as high as $10,000.
turns out this is true, no bs here, good post ronaldo, +1 for u
The scene is getting just ugly up here. And they crush cars here too, and post it on the news. in the street encounters thread i wrote a paragraph on the bs thats going on up here with the cops. Lets put it this way, u cant race period up here in Canada, legally or illegally, Because the cops wait up at the track for us then do mass pull overs, inspections and hand out bs tickets. I think im moving to Miami Beach in a few years, and start a new life there, because im already in "trouble" with traffic offenses here.

Well then don't mod illegally. Find out where the line is, and don't cross it. Headlights have to be 18" from the ground? Don't go with a 3" drop. Exhaust has to be under 105dBa? Get it professionally metered and keep the report with you. Dark window tint? Get an optometrist's script that says you've got sensitive eyes, and keep a copy in the glove box.
Or you could trailer it. If it's not driven on the street, they can't cite you for non-street-legal parts. It also gives you an excuse for the full-race cams, the "I really shouldn't push it this far" levels of boost, and a bottle of giggle gas to top it all off.
i understand about bs tickets tho.. and im from connecticut.... cops here in my town jus pull me over and do "random" checks... i mean.. me and 4 other people in my town roll together.. not heavily modified.. all legal...and we all drive within normal parameter... like no speeding... aka... 37 in a 25... no hard revs.. no peelouts... we're actually relle good about it... but they still come after us....
ive had tickets for no wearing a seatbelt... when i was... no lie......
my buddies for disrubing the peace at 6 pm.......
turning on ur neons in a parking lot while we jus chilled for some burgers...?????
i've been pulled over and told that my exhaust was too loud... and its stock... so then he said i need to not rev me engine.. at which point i laughed and said "its a civic"..... didn't go over well.....
my buddy was told no to rev the engine on his car while we we in the middle of a large hill... and he drives an automatic....
theres relle jus nothing u can do sometimes... and i nderstand some cops are alright... cause ive met/seen/encountered them.... but sometimes its jus silly.... im 19 years old.. goin on 20 in decmber... and have been pulled over 23 times......2 tickets..... its jus annoying when ur doing nothing wrong
id be a bad driver... but i get hassled enough while im a good driver
hahaha that is exactly what they are where i live!!
like they pulled my friend over and was like..
how much have you been drinking?.. hes like uhh nothing?
then they were like how high are you then? hes like im not high?
then they asked him bout his muffler..even tho it was stock..
then they were asking questions bout his novice 1 license..
the cop in my town likes to pull the 'your license plate light is out, or i thought your window tint was too dark' .. i got caught drinking because of it and im gonna be 17 in a month.
