magnetic oil/tranny plugs?

I was looking around on some part sites and stumbled upon these oil and tranny plugs that have a magnet on the tips of them. apparently they are to collect small, loose metalic particles that flow thru the engines fluids. they claim to extend the life of the engine and tranny. ur supposed to put them in with the next oil change/tranny fluid change and im gena be changing my oil soon and might have to change the tranny fluid as well(need to check that) Has anyone heard of these or have them? do u think it actully works? i know they arnt gena make a dramatic difference but anything can help...esp. on an old engine. any feedback on this is greatly appreciated.

thanks

heres a pic of what they look like:

yea

Well i work for honda and the tranny drain plug is already magnetically designed to cath metal shavings, the oil drain plug is not magnetic but as long as you change your oil on time metal shavings in the oil are not going to occur and even if you werent on time with oil changes its likely there still would be no metal shavings, you would have to run 2-3 courts low before the friction gets harsh enough to shave any kind of metal.

Re: magnetic oil/tranny plugs?

I can actually guarantee they work! They have been around since the 30’s and have never left. The ASE recommends them. Funny I found this thread, since this is close to my heart!

You will always find particles on you magnetic drain plug. Doesn't matter what the oil level is. Normal wear does allow metal to float through the oil. Use a magnetic drain plug for one oil change and you will see! I have on in every vehicle and have seen some interesting things. Not worth cutting down.
