VTEC Question

I have searched for this...and no luck.

I have a '96 Civic and i have now gotten some money to spend on the car...I know i want to go Turbo...My question is...Will a turbo do well with a Vtec motor? Because I cant decide between the B18B(Non-Vtec) or the B18C because i have been told by numerous people that the Vtec system cant go haywire with a turbo on the car...now i know that everyone will tell me to go with the B18C since it is a GSR motor and has a few more ponies, but i also dont have pockets made of gold either...if you know what i mean.

Please enlighten me on the knowledge on Vtec and Turbo combinations Oh Honda Gurus !!!!

Thanks,
White2297

P.S. Yes I know about putting in forged internals to run bigger boost settings.

Forums, look at the dyno graphs and look at some of the numbers they are putting down with a b18c1 or b18c5 motor. Look at there setups and ask them questions like, how much did it cost, what is good, bad and whatnot.

The VTEC head flows better so is well suited to a turbo.
You might need to upgrade the cams to something with a higher lift.

Also your compression ratio will be higher to what is normally suited to a turbo engine, so you'd be limited to how much boost you can safely run.

Yes i agree with Tricky Vtec is a good configuration with a turbo especially when you buy a Vtec controller so you can control when you want ur Vtec to kick in. As far as motor I'd get the Non-vtec motor and swap in a head from a vtec engine that way you have the low compression and can run more boost. You can usually find used head's pretty cheap on forums, ebay etc.

Great idea!
No point running higher compression when the head from a vtec is compatible with a non vtec.

It wont last long on a high compression motor anyway.
People cant control themself and often wind up the boost, unaware that a high comp. motor can't handle it.
