Re: Civic died and turns but wont start?

Ya it could be the fuel pump. To check the 3 major things like air, fuel, and spark. To check the air real good take off the intake and stick your hand over the throttle body and try and crank the car and you can tell that its getting air or not but doubt it will be this. To check spark you need to take out one coil pack and the spark plug out also, then stick the spark plug in the coil pack with it still hooked up and place it on the valve cover some where safe and then try and crank the car and see if it has spark. Check all of them like that. To check fuel you can either do it from the back seat where the fuel pump is located or the fuel rail. To do it with the fuel rail just take off the fuel line from the fuel rail and stick the hose into a container and turn the key to on and see if any fuel comes out, the other way is from the back seat. Take off the bottom part of the back seat and take off the top fuel line hose and stick another hose on it that runs to a container and turn the key to on, if fuel comes out then you are good if not then your fuel pump is out.

Re: Civic died and turns but wont start?

Turn the ignition to ON (II), not START (III) and listen for the fuel pump. It'll make a humming sound. No humming= bad fuel pump

Re: Civic died and turns but wont start?

You need to put that hose in a container and turn the key to on so that the fuel pump will kick in and push fuel that way and fuel should go in the container.

could also be your distributor. make sure you're getting electrical feedback from it.

There's no distributor in a 2001 civic.

Ok so if you did that and no fuel came out then its either your fuel pump or fuel filter.

Re: Civic died and turns but wont start?

I got spark at the plugs and the fuel pump hums like it should but I dont see any fuel at the fuel rail. Can a pump still be bad if it hums? or crankshaft sensor cause it or is it good because their is spark?

Probably your fuel filter then. It's in the tank, you can access it underneath the back seat.

It is possible that the fuel pump kicks in but cant send any fuel but that is rare. The fuel filter is located right on top of the fuel pump assembly and it could be clogged up not letting fuel through. Make sure you get the right thing at auto parts stores. My SI has the same thing as you and they where trying to give me the wrong thing. The auto stores where trying to give me the cylinder fuel filters that go in the engine bay when thats no where near what we need.

Just get the rear seat off and take the top hose of the fuel filter and put a hose on the filter and run that hose to a container and then turn the key to on and see if any fuel comes out there.
