Rep Power: 0 Skinny OEM Filter vs Fat OEM Filter???
My car came with the skinny filter, and I used them until about 5 months ago. Since Then, I've been stuck with the new larger one. My question is:
Which filter is better? I heard the skinny one was b/c is from japan, and the larger is made in NA and is cheaper/no need to import....
I found a dealership with about 20 skinny filters sitting on the shelf, I bought 3 for myself and Im wondering about going back and snatching up the other 17.....
Thanks, any honda mechanics care to comment??
edit - Oil Filter, made it a bit clearer

Rep Power: 0 If both are the same price, and my only options were to choose between OEM filter's, I'd go with the thin one. Otherwise, I'd go with the less expensive one.
But here's the kicker, I currently am scheduling an air filter change every 30,000. Therefore, you would only need about 5-6, (<10) for the life of the car. Thus, you don't need all 17 of them. Unless your civic is gonna stick within the family, then yeah, get them all, and then some. But if it does stay within the family, will you still have it or will someone else in your family? If someone else, then it's money out of your pocket first, and then even then, will that person take care of the car as you have?
It's like my 95, I got it brand spanking new, now my lil sis has it. Not the car type, just commute. But she's only a freshman in college, so I basically still take care of it.
Maybe get a few, then once the K&n filter comes out, (whenever that will be?) get that so you can clean and reuse it.
Whew! that's all folks!

Rep Power: 296 He is asking about the difference in diameters of the blue Honda OEM oul filters. I think you're talking about air filters.
Avenger, if you search, there are many topics on this issue, which was talked about quite alot last year.

Rep Power: 296 Btw, I had the thinner filter and then used the fatter one on my next oil change. They both seem to have Honda of Japan printed on them and if I remember correctly they both were made in Japan. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Rep Power: 0 there is no difference between the 2 filters, both the same internally, change em everyday, talk the little one off and put the big one on, what an exciting job huh. so to answer your question buy either one you want, theyre both the same

Rep Power: 0 The difference is the pressure inside of it.
Small filter builds a little more pressure than the big one but, nothing that will hurt the engine.

Rep Power: 0 The skinnier ones have been replaced by the fatter ones. I've been buying the skinny ones, then I went to H and A accessories and ended up buying the fatter one which is the updated oil filter. Why they switched? Dunno... But the skinny one is made in japan and the fatter one is made in Canada.
