Oil filter cooler.

Yesterday, on my 15000 mile oil/filter change, I added something to the oil filter. It's called the oil cooler collar. It's made of aluminum, (heat sink) and suppose to reduce heat from the oil filter. Cost: $18

Rep Power: 394 Hum... I like it. I don't think it'll do terribly much to cool down the oil, but it looks cool. They also sell these in-line oil coolers and an oil pump that pumps the oil through the cooler to cool it down. I hear that those work great. Where did you get that thing? I want one!

Rep Power: 0 from the looks of things i don't think there is a lot of air movement around the oil filter area for that thing to work. i get one of those magnet straps before i got one of those.

Rep Power: 0 FYI, i did get an oil filter magnet already and have been using that also. Though I know now from experience not to use it all the time, but to use it during the last 100-200 miles before oil/filter change. Why, you ask? Because the rubber that holds the magnet in place will begin to melt and deform due to the extreme heat from the filter. But I do have my doubts about this thing because since our engines are aluminum and other not metallic alloys, the magnets will not attract these types of particles. Also, I've read elsewhere from someone who used an oil plug with a magnetic tip, after normal driving and the next oil change, it was clean with no metallic debris.
However, I may be wrong with the impression that our engine is completely non-metallic. Plz correct me!
But I am not wrong for the metallic oil plug with not debris, it just may be that our engines do not 'flake' much or at all or our oil filters trap all fine debris.

Rep Power: 394 The block is aluminum, but the crank shaft, piston, and other things aren't. Those are in contact with the oil. Those magnets might actually work. I'de get bigger ones though. The filter canister itself is made out magnetic metal, so I think getting big magnets and just sticking them on will work. Maybe magnets from some kind of old motor with the same diameter as the filter? Hum... Project!
