Rep Power: 0 how do you jack up the whole car?
i'm thinking of DIY the MTF change cuz honda wants to charge $90. but i read the DIY and you have to jack up all 4 points of the car.
i was thinking:
1) jack up rear left, place jackstand, lower jack
2) jack up rear right, place jackstand, lower jack
3) jack up whole front, place both front left and right jackstands, lower jack
and to drop it back down, just reverse the process?
oh yeah, i'd have to buy 4 jack-stands and a jack, plus the MTF fluid. how much do you think it'd be? thanks.

Rep Power: 399 Locate front Jack point under bumper, lift whole front end, put jack stand on each side per owners manual. Jack up rear end from the suspension subframe (the box like structure in the center where the LCAs bolt to. Put 2 jack stands under the rear as specified in the manual.
Do work, reverse process. Always lift/lower the front first, or you stand the chance of not being able to get the jack out.

Better yet... get a funnel and stretch of plastic hose duct tape it together to form your MTF Bong and just crawl under the car and stick it in the hole...

Rep Power: 309 90 buckS?!?! I really think oil changes and Tranny fluid changes should cost the same 20 bucks. I mean all they do is open the drain bolt, drain fluid, put drain bolt back, (filter for oil), pour new fluid. wam bam thank you mam.

Rep Power: 344 Need:
4 jackstands
1 hydraulic jack
Front:
Find the front jack point. You can feel it right behind where the bumper ends, under the car, and if you can get under to look there's an arrow pointing to it. Jack up the car high enough and you can place the jackstands under either front side jack point (roughly 10" behind the front wheelwells).
Rear:
Stick the jack under the subframe, right behind where a rear lower tie bar would be installed. Raise it up then you can stick jackstands under the rear side jack points (6" in front of the rear wheelwells).
The problem with using the side jack points to raise the car is that with a hydraulic jack and jackstands you won't have any room to switch between them once the car is up. This will necessitate jacking up the car from a non-reinforced area, bending metal...

Rep Power: 0 internal filter that, i think, locates inside the oil pan. the filter usually comes w/ oil pan gasket and its more than 20 bucks for the kit.
90 bucks sounds reasonable w/ OEM products.

BUT isn't the Manual Transmission Fluid Pan (not the oil pan) a SEALED UNIT???
well the oil pan is sealed too ..
Maybe you're refering to an AUTOMATIC Trans Pan!?!?!? I'm not sure about civic's, but yes on a lot of those you have to actually Drop the pan and change a filter... in the Manual.. there is no filter.

Rep Power: 0 Well I haven't had any reason to jack up my 04 yet, but if you need the whole car off the ground I would think that jacking up the left rear pretty high, then you could place both jack stands under the left side of the car, then jack up the front from the left side if necessary, raise the front jack stand. go to the right jack up the rear jack stand on the right rear, jack up the right fronr jack stand it, I think that's how I'd do it.

Rep Power: 0 i changed my atf awhile back and it's simple you really only need 2 jack stand or a pair of ramps. i drove up on ramps, pulled ebrake up, undo atf drain bolt, clean metal shavings off magnetic end of plug, put bolt back in, and put in new fluid. honestly this process is easier than changin oil and is shorter since there is no filter to replace.

yes Store bought ramps to suck big time...
What you have to is this
Buy a 6ft long 8" x 8" exterior grade post (wood)
buy a 12 foot long 2" x 12" board ...
then you cut the Post into two pieces with a chain saw.
BUT NOT DIRECTLY IN HALF.
You start a foot off from one end and end up a foot from the other end diaganolly. (this gives you Two Ramps !)
Then you cut the board directly inhalf and screw it to the bottom on the two ramps you made... )
I'll take pictures next time I use the one's we have)
It's great though... first the car goes up the 2" board... the the ramp is very gradual and you won't scrape... plus wood holds a lot more wieght.
